Problem with receiver powering off

I've been hearing about needing the new yellow card to continue watch all the channels a subscribe to. So in curiousity I took out my smartcard to check if it was the yellow one, it was so I put it back in. Now when I put it back in the receiver powers up and the screen is black, then after a few seconds it shuts off and all i see is static, the only way to make it come back on is to unplug it and plug it back in, take out the smartcard and reinsert in, or hold the power button down for about 10 seconds. Each time it does the same thing. Ive tried leaving it unplugged for 30 seconds, didnt do anything. I've heard that I may need to leave it alone for about an hour for it to reset or something so i'm trying that now. Any suggestions would really help. Thanks.
