Sorry i mis-posted this didnt realize there was a tech help sub-forum.

i can home from work to watch some tv and found that I couldn't receive any channels. The error on screen is:

A problem has been detected with your multi-dish switch.

When I run through the the help available, I eventually get to the switch check screen. It doesn't find any of the satellites and I get the following message:

You have an error with your multidish table. Please run a checkswitch.

is there anyone out there that can help me with this issue.

Please and thanks,
Onkyo

Had the same problem. Called Dish and they sent out a repair tec. Took them 6 times to fix it and I think they said it was the sitch boxes on the roof. They replaced both of them. I do have DHPP. Hope that helps.

i have a dvr 501 and receiver 311 and the model is dish 500

everything works fine in the bedroom even if i switch boxes they still work i get all the channels in the bedroom but in the living room i dont .

ok..that indicates that there is either a problem with the LNB. That is the device on the end of the arm of the dish. Other potential problems....A failed run of cable between the dish and the grounding block. Or the cable between the grounding block and the receiver. The grounding block itself. ANy of the connectors between the dish and the receiver.
You would be wise to call Dish and arrange for a service tech to come out and fix the issue. Unless you have experience with satellite tv or electronics and have the necessary parts to replace the failed items, utilize the techs in the field. This is what we do for living. We are far more qualified to handle the problem. Tampering with the equipment can create more problems.

yea but see this guy in this thread had the same issue.

and simplesimon i guess had posted something years ago on how to fix it and it worked but the post is no longer there.

and simon isnt around anymore

these receivers only have a few errors they will throw out... that one about a problem with your switch could be any number of things.

the receiver has no way to know if a groundblock has gotten too corroded, a wire got pinched a little too hard, a connector got pulled off the wire a bit, ect.

it throws out an error, thats it... that error message means nothing

here's what i would do
1)disconnect the wire from the dish at the receiver and run the check switch test. (hit menu, 6, 1, 1, select check switch)
let it run through all 38 tests and clear the switch matrix...
then reconnect the cable and run the check switch again and see if maybe it comes up connected. If not, proceed to step 2

2) swap the wires up on the dish, pull the lnb off and swap the ports that the wires are on... see if the problem moves to the bedroom, or stays in the living room.
If it stays in the living room, it is most likely a wire problem.
If the problem moves to the bedroom, time to replace the lnb.
