Hi all!! I am a newbie, but have a problem with my system. First of all my system consists of a Legacy dish with twin LNB. I live in Alaska and have not put up another dish to get the 110 so I only have the 119 satellite. I recently purchased a 625 and had to buy a sw24 switch to install it since I already had 2 receivers. Now the 625 will not get the even transponders on tv2, tv1 is fine. I have 2 lines plugged into the back of the receiver and the checkswitch is fine. The lines from the satellite to the receivers are RG6. I have already tried to hook the receiver directly into the satellite but it still did not work. I have a feeling from reading in this forum that I am going to have to upgrade to a dish pro lnb but would like to get your input first.
OOOPS! Not Legacy twin but Legacy Dual
Thanks

Abk,

There is no such switch as SW24. There are SW21's or SW42's. Using Legacy switches and Legacy LNBF's will always involve running two Separate feeds to connect to your 625 receiver. If you really want to use your Legacy TWIN then you will need to run another cable from your TWIN to the second input on the 625 receiver.

If you want to use only one cable from the LNBF to your receiver then will be required to replace your Legacy TWIN with a Dish PRO TWIN or Dish Pro Single LNBF (If you going to use a Dish 500 and you wish to use a NON TWIN LNBF then you will need an "I" Adaptor to properly modify the focal point of the Dish 500 so it focuses 100 percent of the Gathering signal into the Single LNBF). Once you have a Dish Pro TWIN or Dish Pro Single LNBF, you can use a single cable connected to a Dish Pro Plus Separator which will give you two feeds to properly connect to the TWO INPUTS of the 625 receiver.

A SW42 will only ever be able to support upto two receivers, but your 625 will take both outputs so you will NOT be able to support more than ONE 625 receiver with that installation. Switching to Dish Pro LNBF's and Switches is a much better solution. Using a single Dish PRO LNBF on a Dish for one Orbital slot will allow you to use either a DP34 or DPP44. Using a DPP44 will allow you to use a Single cable for each receiver even if you are using Dual tuner SD receivers (322, 522, 625) with a DPP Separator for each Dual Tuner Receiver. Going this route would make it much simpler to add Feeds from Separate Dishes for each additional orbital slot.

sw24 switch

Thanks for your info, but there is a sw24 switch it's also called a 2x4. It has two lines to go to the lnb and then 4 single lines out. I have 2 of those lines attached to the 625 receiver like I stated in my first post. Then one going to each of the 2 other receivers. I think I will just try to set up another dish with the pro lnb and hook it directly into my 625, and keep the other 2 receivers on the dish I already have set up. Hopefully that will fix the problem. In the first post I stated that it was a legacy twin but it is actually a legacy dual, sorry if this caused some confusion.

Thanks

Abk,

If you have a Switch that takes 2 inputs to 4 outputs it is NOT a Dish Switch so it shouldn't NOT be referred to as a SW Switch. The switch you describe is a general purpose Switch it is NOT capable of working with a Dish Legacy TWIN as a Dish Legacy TWIN LNBF has a built-in switch and your general purpose switch is NOT capable of locking your Legacy TWIN into outputting 119 EVEN on one Feed and 119 ODD on the other feed.

If you wish to continue using your general purpose switch you will have to replace your TWIN with a LEGACY DUAL LNBF and you will also need the "I" Adaptor. As I said before the easiest solution would be to replace your LNBF with a Single Dish PRO LNBF with the "I" adapter to future proof yourself. One caveat is this solution will not work for any NON Dish Pro receivers (1000, 2000, 3xxx, 4xxx, 5xxx, 6xxx), generally any receiver with FOUR digits in the model number.

The bottom line is that a Legacy TWIN LNBF can NOT be used with any switch or number of switches to ever be able to support more than 2 Satellite TUNERS, whether that be ONE Dual Tuner receiver, or more than two Single TUNER receivers.

They are sold on e-bay as SW24, but clearly not a Dish branded switch, probably aimed at another market.

People should be aware that switches that are not Dish branded are not necessarily going to work with Dish recievers.

I bought this switch at Radio Shack so they must not know what they are selling!
Thanks for the info and the LNB IS A DUAL NOT TWIN SORRY FOR THE CONFUSION

Thanks,
Amy

Abk,

Remember a Legacy Dual LNBF and Legacy TWIN are Totally different. If you really did have a Legacy Dual LNBF on your Dish using two cables to your General purpose would work perfectly well assuming you ran two cables from the switch to the 625 and the other two to your other 2 receivers. I believe you have a TWIN, based on your explanation of your issues. A Legacy Dual LNBF has one Small "EYE" and only covers one side of the "Y" Yoke on your Dish LNBF Arm, a TWIN has a TWO "EYE"s, TWINS are ONE unit that connects to both Sides of "Y" Yoke on the LNBF Dish Arm.

Try this; disconnect the two separate cables that run from your switch to your 625, run the check switch routine, once complete, reconnect the satellite inputs, run the Check Switch routine again. If you do have ONE Legacy Dual LNBF on your Dish your 625 should recognize your installation is only 1 orbital slot using Legacy Voltage switching at each tuner input to switch between EVEN and ODD transponders.

If you purchased your receiver from a dealer its possible it was used, or you purchased it from a previous subscriber, which makes it possible the receiver was using a Dish Pro Installation previously. Without clearing out the Switch Matrix of the Check switch routine, your receiver didn't reset and consider it was re-connected to a Legacy installation.
