Probelms requesting channels available on 61.5 and 118.7

I tried to order the cricket pack today. However, the CS person said I had to get a dish upgrade which will cost me $195 in order to get these channels.

The channels are on both 61.5 and 118.7 and I get 61.5. I am seeing the free preview of Ten Sports on channel 576 on 61.5 right now so I don't understand why they wouldn't allow me to order it.

Is it because they want the $195 out of me?

I would try calling back. This rep probably didn't know what they were talking about. You also PM one of the dish people like Tony.
 
International channels are being moved off of 61.5, if you don't have 118.7 they are not going to activate a new customer without getting the correct dish installed.
 
Let me start of by saying that if it weren't for Tony, Dish wouldn't have me as a customer today. Yesterday I contacted CS via online chat and at the end of the chat, I told them I would be cancelling my contract with Dish. I first asked them that if I can order the cricket pack, after a few minutes the rep came back and said no because I don't have the correct dish set up and I would have to pay $195 for someone to come to my house and make the upgrade.

I explained to the rep that these channels are on 118 and 61.5 and I am getting 61.5 so I don't see why I needed an upgrade. She replied that these channels might be moving to 118 in the future so that's why I needed to change the dish. I told her when you change, I will then decide if I wanted to pay $195 for the upgrade or not. I felt like she wanted me to get the upgrade to get the $195 out of me so I told her I will be cancelling my account. She then passed me on to some specialist and we went thru the same thing. At the end, I told her I will be cancelling my account at the end of the month because I thought I had paid until the 30th. Her response was no, you can cancel now because you paid until the 18th. I was shocked with her response and was about to cancel when Tony got back to my via PM.

He went out of his way to get me those channels without the $195 and explained in detail and was upfront about all the fees I would incur if I did cancel these channels early.

I run a company too and I would hire a guy like Tony in a minute for his never give up attitude and thinking outside the box. He would be an asset to any company he works with.

Thanks so much for the kudos! Again, just keep me posted with anything that pops up like 'migration' of the channel or whatever comes up.

In the diagostic tests however, the STB shows that I have full signal from 119/110/129 and 118 but when I click the Details of the LNB, it only 110/119/129 listed.

However, I do currently get south asian programming such as the Hindi Mega Pack.

The CS said they will have to send a tech out to either install a new dish or a new LNB. Unfortunately the dishes are owned by the condo building, so its a complex installation where comcast/directv and dish they all go to a hub and redistributed to individual units. Point is, I may have to get approval from the condo association to touch any of this and I am afraid it may cause some problems ( such as the additional dish/lnb not being compatible with the wiring ).

So I am thinking if there's any way around this ( without having a new dish installed )..

PM me the account number on this one too. There is something "fishy" about this one, much like bantonb's issue. If you could, also include the actual switch matrix and what it shows(Menu-6-1-1-Check Switch). It will say "satellites" and just let me know what satellite numbers are listed. If it lists just the three, not a way around it without having the "building super" or management office tell them to upgrade. Honestly, it does make sense in your situation that the dish is already present. Soon as you can get with me, I can check into it.

There was just another free preview of these channels off of 61.5 over the last few days. I'm hooked and hopefully will still be able to get this setup without having to go with the 2nd dish right now. Anyone know if there is an official end date when these will actually be gone from 61.5?

As I pointed out in another thread, that is not exactly true. Perhaps for the regular International packages they won't, but the OP is talking about Cricket. Unfortunately some CSR's will tell you that, but they will do it if you have 61.5 as I found out. It just takes some work, or use the CSR's here. There has been no indication Cricket or EuroNews for examples will be off of 61.5, some of assumed that. I'm not saying they won't be removed but at this point I don't think we know that.
