Pricing Update from Dish Network

In a chat with billing back around the first of the month, I was told by a CSR that locals would be added to existing customers' accounts only if and when programming is changed. Based on that, if you stay with what you have, locals should not be automatically added.
Thanks. I'm happy to keep getting my locals OTA.

Well sent another e-mail today. THis time I got a response (helped to send a CC to JD and CE). Solution is satisfactory for 6 months. After that, I will have to look at alternatives, such as dropping my second 622 (owned) and keeping the 211 with EHD. I'm still going to contact the California AG about the DVR fee, especially since Scott's Graphic from the retailer chat showed the old price scheme for the dual tuner DVRs as being $17.98 ($7 + $5 for tuner 2 + $5.98 DVR service). Now a flat $17 for a "savings of $0.98". Yet we are now being charged $6 for DVR service for and increase of $5.02.

"Now in my case I was paying a $7 fee on my new 722, even though it was the primary (part of the deal for getting the new receiver and 2nd dish). But I was paying no DVR fees since the 722 replaced my no-DVR-fee 721. I'll be very interested in what Dish does with my next bill, but in any scenario it will still be less than Comcast, so I'm sticking around for a while."

I am in the same boat. Took the 722 upgrade ($100) for the mandatory 721 replacement. Now the 722 is costing $17 even though it replace an owned, no fee receiver.

OK I'm confused

As a new customer does the 1st receiver (if a dual tuner) have the 5 buck fee?
Everything I read says yes but Dish builder site says otherwise.

So is there the 5 buck fee for a dual tuner as the 1st (or only) receiver on the acct?

This is getting very interesting with lots of people sounding as if they have had enough of price increases. How much more are we going to pay to watch T.V. ?
The bottom line is that you can only watch one program at a time, so do we really need all of these channels? I do wish that eventually they would just go to an ala carte type of system, where we could choose the channels that we wanted to watch. I know that will never happen because of the money that would be lost, but hey we can dream can't we. I for one only watch a handfull of channels, but of course they are spread out across the package in between all of the other garbage.
When I left cable about 1 year ago, for dish, my price was about $66 per month. Now I am getting very close to $90 per month for the same package.
It seems like not that long ago that if you were paying $90 per month, it included all of the channels and premiums. Now I just have America's 200 with silver HD. To me that is not worth near $90 per month.
I guess I will just start playing the old switch-A-roo, and bounce between cable and dish to get the best price. Cable requires no contracts, and dish usually gives you a pretty good price for the first year.

I just finished a chat with DISH, asking about the $5 fee for not having a phone line connected. According to this guy, I still have to pay it... unless I signup for autopay.

Me: I'd like to turn off my landline phone. Am I still subject to a $5 fee if I don't have my 222 receiver connected to a phone line?

Thank you for being a valued DISH Network customer, I will be happy to assist you today.* Please give me a moment to access your account and review the information you have already provided.

(03hy) Chris V. VVP: Your patience is greatly appreciated.
(03hy) Chris V. VVP: I'd be happy to assist you with that.
(03hy) Chris V. VVP: In order to avoid the TV2 connection fee, you need to connect the receiver to the phone line.
(03hy) Chris V. VVP: However, it can be waived if you sign up for autopay with paperless billing.
(03hy) Chris V. VVP: A valid e-mail address should also be updated on the account.
(03hy) Chris V. VVP: Do you wish to sign up for autopay with paperless billing?

Me: is this true, even if the 222 is my only receiver?

(03hy) Chris V. VVP: Yes, it is.

Me: Thanks for the info. I do not want to sign up for autopay... I'll just keep the phone line.

(03hy) Chris V. VVP: That's fine.
(03hy) Chris V. VVP: As you are a wonderful Dish Network customer, I can offer you HBO and Showtime free for 3 months on the account.

Me: no thank you

(03hy) Chris V. VVP: Not a problem.

Why didn't you go for the free HBO/Showtime promotion? Seems like a "no brainer" to me.

I have to join the complainers. I just received my notification 15 days after rates went up about the fantastic decrease coming to me due to my being a AEP subscriber!!

I have 2 622's (at the time I got them, it was their only HD DVR receiver) and do not have anything on the SD outputs, yet I now have to pay for them. My bill went up $13 (+10 on receiver fee, +6 DVR -3 AEP).

So, I too will be looking for an alternative television provider. In the meantime, I will have to dump most of my premiums. Time to call an untrained CSR.

I found out on the 1st receiver everything is rolled into the price so the 1st receiver does not have the $5 fee

That's what I thought too, which is why I'm puzzled by what I was told in the DISH chat. Maybe it's because I haven't had a bill generated yet for February. My bill is always generated on the 26th, and my last bill still shows my package as Turbo HD Bronze for $29.99 and still lists the TV2 Connection Fee under the "Explanation of Charges."

I'll try them again after my Feb bill shows up.

The $5 fee for TV2 (Duel Receivers) is a SCAM. I always have a phone line connected to the receiver to avoid the previous monthly $5 fee. Right now, Dish will automatically charge customers $5.00 + $ 14.00 (Duel Receiver connecting 2 TV). $14 is already a rip off when Direct only charges $5.00 per receiver. I even try removing the 2nd Duel Receiver and added 2 solo receiver and the price still comes out the same. Right now, I am paying an additional $20.00 each month for 2 additional TV, $10.00 each (approximate).

Even Cable TV cost cheaper than Dish in some area and does not require any box to get the basic ESPN signal.

Monthly Charges
Mar 01 - Mar 30 Service Plan (15/0) 6.00 -What is this??
America's Top 120 With Locals 39.99
DVR Service 6.00
HD Solo Receiver 7.00 (One 211)
HD DuoDVR Receiver 17.00 (Two 622's)
HD & Platinum 10.00
$ 85.99

Yay... $24.00 Just for equipment... Considering I have had this same equipment for almost 3 years now...

I guess that is the trade off. They advertise low prices on programming and hit you on the back end with equipment charges.

Luckily U-Verse is finally coming to this area & I am out of contract.

I guess I'm just irritated that they charge so much for equipment

I'll be very interested in what Dish does with my next bill, but in any scenario it will still be less than Comcast, so I'm sticking around for a while.

As it turns out I am now paying:

Multi Sport 5.99
Locals 5.99
Existing Customer Leased Primary HD Receiver 9.00 (VIP722)
Additional Outlet - Adjustment -7.00
Additional Outlet - Adjustment -2.00
Solo Receiver 7.00 (508)
HD & Platinum 10.00
Jan 31 Loyalty Credit 1 of 6 - Adjustment -2.00

For a total of $26.98 for February. This is compared to $33.98 in January. (AT250 paid annually.) At least for now my bill is $7 lower than before. They did increase the 508 fee, but eliminated the $7 charge for the VIP722 and didn't stick me with a DVR fee.

The only downside is if I decide to get a 2nd HD DVR upstairs (or am forced to do so by Dish to get the new HD on 72) my bill will go up by $12 for the increased receiver fee plus $6 for a new DVR fee. An $18/mo. makes Comcast look interesting, because frankly I'm tired of having to come on here to find out what channels have been added and what new dishes I need to have bolted on the roof. (Note this is a slam on Dish, not on this site.)

Sure seems to be a lot of confusion on this charge, even within the ranks of dish. I spoke w/ a very nice and helpful rep. about 2 weeks ago (for about 35mins) when I upgraded my folks. I was quizzing him on the $5 phone fee on the 1st receiver. He basically admitted he was unable to answer the question because he didn't know. He checked with 2 managers and all he could tell me was they seemingly had conflicting information about the phone connection charge, whether or not it would apply to the 1st receiver and/or existing customers or just new customers. So, basically I hung up the phone with him saying sorry, but you'll have to see what happens on your bill because "we are just not sure"

Are the transponders changes permanent?

922 pausing every two to three minutes?
