Price increases in February 2014 (UPDATED!)

Just saw my proposed $ 12 increase. $198.61 before credits and taxes. Did a quick comparison and my Dish bill is now higher than my combined , electric, gas , and telephone bills. When I asked my wife if we should make changes, she said "hell no, I enjoy TV more than electric, gas, and telephones". I'm still laughing. As I wrote before we have stopped going to movies twice a month and going to live concerts and sports events. We have saved much more than the Dish increase and just wait for the movies to come on the premium networks. Live sports and concerts rip you off more than Dish. The last concert we went to was a $250 experience and the sound was terrible.

Viewer demand plays a role. When ESPN et. al know they can get exclusive rights to a league, pre-pay billions for TV contracts to a league, then the league has a financial windfall which raises franchise profits, and then the players unions strike to get their piece of the windfall, raising salaries and salary caps. Vicious cycle.

The L.A. Dodgers just made Clayton Kershaw the highest paid pitcher ever - $215 Million for seven years. The Dodgers were able to do that because they recently got an $8 Billion (yes Billion) deal from Time Warner Cable. Time Warner has now started a new Dodgers channel and is asking $8 a month for that channel from subs.

Sooner or later the bubble has to burst - perhaps it has started already as Comcast Sportsnet Houston recently filed for bankruptcy. Eventually the content providers have to be told "no".

No $5 credit to offset the 2nd hopper increase?

I started with Dish in spring of 1997. Installed my own on the side of the house. Had very little trouble pointing it and locking on. Those were the days. I think I started with Top 40 for $19.99 a month or so. East and West locals because Dish didn't have mine. Memories...

My bill shows $12 for each hopper as well as the other increase, but just realized that the discounts don't show until the bill is actually posted. I previously contacted Dirt, & Zach confirmed I was getting the $5 second hopper discount, so it should show up on the 12th of Feb, included in the next bill. Hard to accept that it's $100.99 regular monthly charge (that's for 200 pkg w/2 hoppers/1 joey), after the 18 months I'll definitely have to change something!

My latest bill shows no $5/18 credit for the second Hopper and also a double $5.00 charge for BB@H, which I'm currently getting with a $5/6mo promotion. When they clear that up it'll go from $148 + tax to $159 + tax.

I haven't received the new bill with the increase yet, but under my programming section online it does show the new prices and no credit for $5.00 on my 2nd hopper. So , I called today and talked to them and they said I would be getting the $5.00 credit for 18 months when my new bill is finally posted. I also asked for any freebies and got Showtime for 3 months for Free. So next month when my bill finally posts I guess we will see if they do honor the $5.00 credit for 18 months.

The My Programming section of the website never lists discounts. I got my new bill but it still has the grandfathered prices. I assume that will be the last time. I won't worry unless I don't see the Hopper credits on my next bill.

My bill won't be available till near the end of the month. Not really bothered to much with the increase just yet. Still getting a full $50 discount with the refer a friend program & have a few months left before credits start dropping off.

No credits on mine for it. The rep I am talking to now is useless. They keep saying something about a new hopper and that's only for new customers blah blah.. Mine jumped from 7.00 to 12.00 on the January bill. If they refuse the credit then I'll throw out well D can give me free equipment and discounts for the 1st year. My contract is up in March so I have more wiggle room now with them. They didn't add any new channels such as ESPN U in HD and others people have requested so it's pretty stupid of an increase. Pretty soon the refer a friend for Dish will be useless since the service will cost too much.

Looked at bill no change, didn't expect as as I am guessing it will be on the bill that is generated for Feb that is due in feb

Are you saying your bill has actually posted and it does not show a discount, or online programming shows the increase? Also DISH has added new channels/HD over the last year or so if that is a measuring stick.
