One can also assume that all the cable companies will raise rates too next year. While I understand Mediacom in your area provides terrible service, other cable companies have woke up and have started to provide much better service. TWC in my area until 3 years ago only had 5 HD channels. Now they are neck and neck with Dish. The nice thing about DBS companies is that they are consistent nationwide, where the local cable company can be any level of quality -- from fuzzy analog to all HD...

You should setup a mover first, then after tech arrives let them know you are wanting to upgrade. That way the tech can just close that WO, get you on the phone to build a new one for a upgrade and then get paid to just do a upgrade/new install along with getting paid to do the mover.
If you do a combined mover/upgrade the tech doesn't get paid as much as they remove that additional pay out amount cause of the supposed "saved drive time" bs.
As for the question, you are still an existing customer after the move cause the account never changes.
As for the topic - the increase of $5 IMO is too much. They are basically making up for lost ground during that no increase for 3 years crap.
At least my Blockbuster package $10 isn't going up and my 2 premiums isn't going up. Was looking to dump two 722's and go for two hoppers very soon but that looks to make yet another added increase I think?
Answer is in the first post. New customer or old makes no difference. You must have had the Hopper activated on your account prior to the May 21st of this year.
In general moving has no affect on your status, just as it wouldn't for most anything else. If you are customer before the move, you are the same customer after the move.
Until DIRT got involved a few years ago, I was being charged $5/mo as a special fee due to DISH service being offered to Hawaii.

I know my bill will go up at least $5--and I'm already paying a little over $100 a month to Dish--and I really like my HWS and joey setup.
To ease the pain of the increase and any possible upcoming equipment fee increase--getting the Disney / ABC family and some more of the ESPN's in HD would appease me, somewhat--if it happens and I hope it does. Also, a surprise or two new HD channels would be nice--I know I probably dreaming in this regard...but oh well.
I watch one program in SD--and it's on the CW--I get a Superstation to see the program--no CW in my market-otherwise I watch HD only. I know I could do hulu or similar but that's another added cost.

Tell me about it! Long story, short...63 yr. old electric water heater died (we thought) and was finally replaced. Turned out it was only a bad fuse in the equally as old shut off box that I was stupid enough not to check. $800.00, stinky water and not a PENNY savings later...yeh, I'm with ya!!
Looks like my bill is going up $12. My reaction will be to make it go down significantly by dropping down to AT200 or 120+ and jettisoning HBO unless DISH comes up with some significant credits. $12 is too steep an increase. Love the Hopper but I am starting to reach the point when it's not worth it anymore.

I have not seriously considered switching to Direct because I was always happy with DISH. It looks like the programming costs are roughly the same after both sets of increases. I guess it will come down to the equipment costs to see who is the "better value".
Looks like I will be sticking with my 2 722K DVR's and have already downgraded a month or so ago from AT250 to AT120.
$5.00 a month increase would not be as hard to swallow if DISH and Disney could come to some HD agreement....... which I had foolishly hoped would have happened by now, and hopefully the $5.00 a month will cover.

I wouldn't be surprised if Disney comes back aboard to see another increase soon thereafter. Dish's increases dwarf Direct's though, assuming Direct doesn't tinker with its hardware and DVR fees.
Like I posted yesterday I dropped from the AT250 to the 120+. As long as I've had Dish (total of 8 years maybe - i like to do the 2 year hop) I've always had the AT250. Last night going through the guide there really isn't anything we'll be missing except Fox Sports 1 but now that college FB is over it isn't a big deal. Wife said she would miss DIY but would get over it quickly. I had no idea I didn't need to spend so much per month! Along with dropping one Joey I'll be saving around $20-$22/month.
With each provider raising $3 to $10 a year, how much more can the consumer pay for T.V. ? How much is the average bill going to be in 10 years? At this rate, it will be well over $100 a month for a middle of the road package, and that is just way to much to pay for this garbage.
