Price increases in February 2014 (UPDATED!)

Its all the same Toll Road, I prefer to drive it in Dish's hot rod as opposed to anyone else's.

I only hope I have is that there's a different toll if I don't need the locals or sports paths which I never drive on.

I predict there will be a lot of churn come 2nd quarter of next year. DISH simply doesn't learn from their own history. They finally have a positive quarter with more subs added than lost and they counter it with equipment & dvr fee increases, on all of us that had the original hoppers from last May and of course the yearly price hike too. I am going to seriously make some changes to my account AGAIN , if I am to stay with DISH .

I am also going to analyze exactly what channels I watch and shows and where I can get them the next day or on Netflix. The majority of shows watched in my household would be the locals. It sure seems stupid to pay over $120.00 a month to watch local tv and a few shows scattered out over all programming packs. The equipment fees alone will be $38.00 a month to keep what I have now with the new hikes. I can remember when I paid $19.99 for top 40 back in 97. And as far as Premium movie channels, how can anyone justify $19.00 a month for HBO? Or $14.00 for Starz , or SHowtime, or Cinemax? It is funny as hell to me that Netflix is still selling for $7.99 a month for streaming unlimited plan and HBO is $18.00 ,soon to be $19.00 a month and yet NETFLIX has 30 million subs to HBO's 20 million subs.

Something has to give ,because these yearly price extortions are going to lead to more cord shaving and cord cutting.

It's not fair to add in your equipment fees when you compare today's packages to packages in 1997. It's also not fair to compare 120 channels to 40 channels. I myself would love to have smaller packages like that offered again but I don't think Dish or any provider is allowed to due to contracts with the Networks.

I know there will be churn for Dish but if DirecTV has similar price increases to can expect them to have the same. Don't forget that the DirecTV customers that leave need to go somewhere else and Dish's promotions may look great to them. It's the same thing year after year, people switch back and forth after they get hit with a price increase.

I think most of us understand and accept that there will be yearly price increases. But what upsets many is that the increase is three times the rate of inflation - and the way the increase is allocated (equipment fees).

I suppose another way to look at it is that it enables people to get a minimal TV package. The increases mostly affect the ones with multiple boxes and fancier programming. The family with a single STB and low end programming package can stay in the game.

And I am pretty sure that once Dish see those churn....they will have some incredible discounts & maybe half of premiums will make a comeback. Once Dish feels satisfied....the year will be coming to an end...& Dish will once again try to get the net margins up by increasing the prices.

I am myself tired of AT200...just because of Bravo. I will have to look at other packages of Dish or look at my other options. Heck might look at Netflix/Amazon as viable options

The first provider that offers a new tier structure with fewer channels (not the junk offered now) will win. Some say that it will never happen, but I say that it HAS to happen, sooner or later. I believe that IPTV will force the change.

Hi guys, first timer. Never posted anything on here but have kept up with all the news about dish from here. Been a dish customer for 12 years now and been real happy with them even when vz fios comes knocking on my door I haven't left.but since I live in the LA market we have not been able to see any laker games since twc bought the rights and that was last year.through the years I have had a Latino bounus pack and an at200 but these last years with all the increase I have switched to dish Latino max,so my issues are these combo Spanish and English packs lack English channel. It use to be cheep having at200 and a Latino bounus pack since that was 10 then 12 but now is 17 so, now the price increase is 6 bucks for dish latino dos not 5 (that's the pack I got now).that's going by angels post. So its true lime others say if your willing to pay more you should get more. But being on a combo pack I have not seen dish add more English channels but the price has risen. What dish has added is univisions sports channel, which I can tell has made the prices rise in the Latino packs(were more of a basketball baseball viewing household).so with a roku or chromcast its making it easier to considering droping service. I know this isn't dish's fault I like them, but they have to offer programing you can't get on the net. Something that its worth for paying. Example dish only offers CNN as the only news channel in the combo packs.
Sorry if my post is to long or sounds like a rant, but I am willing to pay for what I can't get on the net. Or for what I'm getting and living in LA and having a Latino pack I feel like Im not.
I'm still hopeful dish has something up their sleeve, but if not I won't look for a diff. Provider ill just be a cord cutter.
thanks guys keep up the good work. And sorry but I'm writing this from a phone I will dl the app.

Scott is going to post it today but the cliffnotes version

-most packages went up $5
-Hopper goes up $2 (if activated before 5/21)
-2nd hopper goes up $5 (if activated before 5/21)

I dont see the price increase chart anymore. i guess Angel took it down?

Yeah his post has been removed but Scott has the chart added to the first post in this thread now. I'm guessing people at Dish probably weren't too happy with Angel leaking the information before they were ready to make an announcement. I appreciate the fact that he/she did it but hopefully they didn't get in trouble or lose their job over it.

The top dog at CBS was interviewed a couple months back. He basically rubbed his hands in glee and said the nets have a license to steal and he intended to get his share and more, if possible.

Said he keeps raising prices and cable/ sat keeps paying and he will continue to jack the price up to whatever the market will bear.

So, the sats and cable are like a railroad. They just transport the stuff and have to accept a relatively low margin in their business or another transporter will underbid them.

It will be the free to air streamers that break the nets (if they win the court wars).

If I were King of the railroaders, I would group together and get the cable/sats to finance 3 content channels with top rate programming (house of cards quality). Then I would go to the big 4 and tell them that I was accepting bids for only one of them to carry local content (news) and have them pay me for the carriage right to my customers. Let the other 3 wither on the vine.

I may (or may not, cough, cough) have known about it last week, but I don't spill stuff like that here, for that reason. No real benefit in the information getting out early, and I surely don't want my employer asking Scott for IP logs to figure out who I am.

I do not give out that information.

If I have info like that and I'm not sure about getting in some kind of trouble I just PM Scott and ask him what he thinks or just give him the info right away.

Can someone explain the terminology of the Mini-Packs (Full price vs 50% off) from the grid in the first post? I've got the Heartland pack, but I'd love to get it for half-off -- even at the .50 increased price!!

Help! Need a splitter for Dish Network? Do they make such a thing?
