I noticed with the latest software updates to my 211 and 622, when you are viewing a GUIDE, a message alternates with the time/date at the top left portion of the screen that states "Press Guide for XXXX" where XXXX is next Guide in the Favorites List.

For the Favorite Lists generated by the user it says Fav1, Fav 2, etc.

I wonder why they don't display the actual name I entered for these lists?

I noticed that too. There are also the messages when in standby. Both of which seem kind of useless for anybody who has used the receiver for more than a day or so. They certainly could have used the user name since they report the number of programs you have recorded and the number of PPV titles available in the idle screen.

I would be willing to bet they have determined that many people don't use the favorites feature at all. I have been amazed that virtually everyone I know who has Dish Network does not set up their favorites. They usually just use the All Sub view. Most people know you can set up favorites, but I usually hear something like, "oh yeah, I know about it, I've never figured it out or taken the time though". So I suspect that Dish is trying to raise the visibility of that feature. What they need to do is make it easier and more intuitive. When setting up favorites, I am constantly switching back or looking up on a reference card what the channels are. If the setup screen look more like the actual guide in all channels mode, and you could pick your favorites from there, it would be easier to tell what they are.

Having said all that, I would like the option to turn the alert off. I find it kind of distracting. They could have it on by default, but experienced users could turn it off.

The intersting thing is the "hints" on the standby, doesnt have one for creating favorites as far as i can tell, and that process is not exactly intuitive.
I would prefer a guide option called build favs or add to favs, based on channel currenly active.
Second i think a pop-up or something when they activate a new channel to add it to exsiting favs would be helpful.

YES!!! That would be very nice to have. The only problem with setting up and using your favorites is you don't know when they've added a new channel unless you go looking for new channels in the All Sub view. I know someone who refuses to use favorites for that very reason.

I don't see why DISH doesn't enable favorite lists for everyone and put Variety channels , MOVIE, Sports/news, Music. They already have HD For all who want hd , why not do the same for the rest of the channels. The guides would just group all the channels into lists for everyone to use automaticaly as they cycle through the guides. This way it idot proofs the guides for everyone.

I would hate that. I like favorites because I can make my own! I have one called sports, but it doesn't have all the sports channels that Dish has because some don't interest me.

I agree. In fact I wish there was the capabilty for more favorite lists. Let me create the lists as I want them.

I have one specifically for my wife and her favorite channels.

Personally I get all my information on new channels right here on Satellite Guys :).

hehe, No kidding there. This place knows it all.

But I guess that serves to inform the rest of the customer base. I still don't know why did never implemented a "message" feature. I've seen it in the menus, but they've never sent out a "Hey, we added new channels today" msg to all the customers.

I will say that this "Press Guide to ..." feature on the guide is the one black eye from 8/15. We need to heap on the negative feedback to undo this mistake.

I would like that option too. It's annoying when I look up to see the time and it has the alert message instead.

Personally, I'd like a feature to lock to a specific guide. My wife has had some serious health issues that have affected her ability to operate complicated machinery. I am constantly having to undo states she has gotten the box into. Some of this can be fixed by setting up a limited functionality remote, but the multiple guides thing constantly puts her into the all channels list where she gets lost in all the useless choices.

My old Microsoft DishPlayer (7200) had a flashing light on the front when there was a message. After turning it on, I could read the info in the menu. That was a nice way to send a message such as new channels, etc.
