I will soon have FIOS installed. I'll skip their router (no FIOS TV) and use my current LinkSYS wired router, as I have extensively wired my house. But there are advantages to not having a cable strung across the living room, or outside.

So I'm considering buying a pre-N wireless router and replacing or supplementing the wired LinkSYS. It would seem from the Amazon reviews, they're all junk. Often, just as many 1 stars as 5 stars. LinkSYS, D-Link, Belkin, Netgear - ALL junk? And does the WNR3500 really require a separate router with DHCP server & firewall? How could they call it a router?

My patch panel is located pretty much dead center in the house, and pretty much level with the ground outside.

Anyone have any recommendations on what to avoid or what to consider?

I believe Draft 2 is the latest iteration. My Cisco routers are draft 2. Great routers, but expensive for home use (start at $500)

I went ahead and gambled on a [ame="http://www.amazon.com/D-Link-DGL-4500-Selectable-Dualband-802-11n/dp/B000Z7AKGC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1234577533&sr=8-1"]D-Link 4500.[/ame]

Hope it works pretty good.

I really wish the mess of an image above would be fixed. It's been going on for some time now. I'd rather it just highlight a link, rather than try to put in an image.

I wanted to get the linksys610 new model.. heard is having a lots problem when goes 5.0GB is not really true dual band. I want to wait for new netgear rangmax WNDR3700..Coming soon getting that instead that linksys..my friends all have netgear routes and they happy with it. I just want to wait a bit and get the newest model I guess!

I figure whatever I get, I'll get a very few years out of it. But then, I don't plan on using it much. I much prefer hard wired, and my house is already set up.

When we redo the kitchen, I'm thinking of putting in at least 4 drops. Anyone think it worthwhile to actually put a drop behind the refrigerator, just in case internet equipped refrigerators really catch on? Or maybe they'll be wireless, too.

Navy, This is the one from DLINK that I have and it has been perfect. I have had zero issues with it.
