I'm just curios, does anyone know if PPV requests can go over the Internet now? If you buy a DOD it would seems silly to phone the order in.

When I was hooked up the other week neither D* nor the installer made any fuss about the phone line like they used to do.

Requesting PPV and using DOD are two different things.
You select a PPV using the remote which then sets up the recording via the satellite. The PPV information is kept on the access until that info is downloaded to DirecTV for billing purposes. DoD is also selected with the remote and the program IS downloaded via the ethernet connection. If the DOD has a $ then you will be charged for it.

And phone lines aren't needed for setup of receivers, which is why the installers weren't concerned.

If you have a HR20 or HR21 connected to the internet the unit will "call home" over the internet and not use the phone connection. The only need for the phone line is for caller-id.
