Sorry if this has already been asked and answered elsewhere. If it has, my searches didn't find it.
Currently PTAT is only possible on the big 4 networks. For a given market, by design, Dish has put those 4 stations on the same transponder so that the Hopper can stream them all using one tuner. In our (Houston, TX) market there are also four other local stations on that same transponder. Is there a technical reason why PTAT couldn't be revised to allow a Hopper to receive more stations than the big 4, if they are available? If not, could the software and hardware allow the user to select four of the X available local stations (X= 8 for Houston) on the same transponder as the big 4? Maybe the only ones who can answer those questions, rather than speculate on answers, are the architects and builders of the Hopper.
We would like to have PBS included in PTAT and would even be willing to give up one of the big 4 network stations to get PBS. Why? - to consume fewer tuners for recording and because we occasionally miss seeing something on PBS we would like to watch in the program guide. Certainly an enhancement we would like to see in the future.
