I remember back in the day when my ZIP code allowed me to get distant networks provided by Dish Network. It was my understanding that the reason I qualified was that, given my location, I would receive sub-standard reception of my locals with a traditional roof-top antenna. I even had to state that fact to a Dish Network rep.
What I did not tell Dish is that I have a 50’ tower with 2 antennae at the top (one pointing to Tyler, the other pointing to Dallas), thereby allowing me to get my local networks. (Presumably not falling into the category of “traditional”) Granted it was analog and the signal wasn’t great, but always watchable.
Eventually local networks became available through Dish Network. I qualified for them, and as all know the distants were eventually phased out.
Since then, I’ve gotten an HDTV and then the 942, and I’m enjoying OTA HD networks. I can receive NBC, ABC, Fox, and WB (these channels are weak during the day, but usually consistent during evening hours—I’ve no idea why this is so, but that’s for a different forum). I never get CBS or UPN. Fortunately I get CBS HD from Dish.
My question is this: Given that my OTA HD is on my guide, I assume Dish knows that I’m receiving a signal via antenna. If/when Dish Network offers Network HD, will this fact veto my qualifications for Dish-provided network HD?
You may ask, why I would care to receive Dish-provided network HD if I can receive them OTA. The reason is that firstly, I only have 1 ATSC tuner on the 942, and secondly that the signals are not consistent during the day.
