When I went to signup at the Paramount website it just said 7 days free. There wasn't anywhere to enter a coupon code for the 30 days free, but maybe I needed to get farther into the signup process before I saw the option to enter a coupon code.

I don't think I'd want to start out with an annual subscription in case I didn't like it.

Maybe I'll call them and ask them if there is a deal for a 30 day free trial.

Near the end of the signup process it had a spot to enter the promo code and it worked! But when I clicked "Submit" it gave me an "error 503" at the top of my screen. So I clicked "Submit" again and it said I was already signed up. So it was just a random, strange error message but it still went through.

Anyway, now I have 30 days of Paramount+ free. I wish I had known that Paramount+ includes "Smithsonian". Also I found out tonight that Discovery+ includes Discovery, TLC, Animal Planet, Food Network, HGTV, ID, A&E, History, Lifetime, OWN, Travel, and Science Network.

If I had known that Discovery+ included so much I would not have renewed my Dish Network contract for 2 years. Between Discovery+, Paramount+, my OTA TiVo, and FTA I would have everything I watch except for Fox Sports. But I could live without it if it meant saving over $60 per month!

I could still cancel Dish and come out ahead, but I would have to pay a $460 early termination fee. (23 months @ $20 per month).

Yeah, I wouldn't cancel with that many months to pay the fee for. I was on the tail end of my 2 year commitment and I put my account on Pause about 6 months before & paid $5.00 a month and when I came up on the 25th anniversary with DISH I canceled. I paid for 6 months at $10.00 a month. You can always cut down on programming to the Flex pack and save some money till your commitment is up. Kind of phase it out a little at a time. But if you come into some extra money or don't mind parting with existing money and you want to get out go for it.

Paramount+ has CBS news for the major metropolitan areas. But, of course, no Fox, CNN, CNBC, or MSNBC.

I found that you can get lots of free news on "Pluto TV".

So far, the three movies I watched on Paramount+ were all 4K. I am impressed with the picture and sound quality.

I will see how often they add new movies -- and then decide whether to go on the monthly or annual plan.

If your primary reason for renewing is new movies (the kinds that would get the 4K treatment), you may be disappointed. I personally hold on to my P+ sub for original series (Star Trek, Evil, Halo, The Good Fight), catalog shows I missed when they originally aired on CBS, and exclusive sports, like soccer.

That is one source. There is a Roku app called "World News" that has a few channels including Bloomberg. I use the Roku Channel to watch CBC News, DistroTV for EuroNews and France24 has their own Roku app. DistroTV also has news feeds from other outlets on both sides of the spectrum.

I just dropped ESPN+ since the NHL and NLL have ended or will end soon. It had exactly what I was looking for and was a great value at $7 a month.

To save some money temporarily, I'm going to pause my DISH service and explore Sling and Philo to see if it meets our needs in conjunction with an indoor antenna. We don't watch much TV in the Summer so might as well save the money where we can, especially with inflation.

If I could find a cheap streaming service that had Fox Sports I would be all set to ditch Dish Network. The best I have found so far is Sling Blue for $35 a month. When my 2 year Dish contract ends I will probably ditch it and go with Sling Blue. Will save about $45 a month.

If you have YTTV, you haven't really gotten rid of "cable," so it isn't surprising it is costing you more than just having cable. That said, you are also getting a lot of things that aren't available on old fashion cable as well as the cloud DVR and multiple device support viewing that cable doesn't offer.

I personally am paying about the same as I used to for DISH 200 with the Hopper3 and two joeys, but I am getting way more of what I want to watch, with a higher picture quality, and seeing almost no commercials without having to FF or skip through them.

I subscribe to Amazon Prime almost entirely because of the savings on shipping costs, and faster delivery. I would not do it for the content alone.

Not a fair comparison, if you just used Dish vs YTTV, that would be fair, Traditional Subscribers would have to pay extra for P+ or Netflix just like cord cutters would.

If you went streaming services only, no live TV service, you would pay less, get the majority of the programming on Live TV plus all the exclusive stuff and pay less

All ABC, Disney, Fox, Nat Geo, FX is on Hulu/Disney+, you can get the Bundle which includes ESPN+ for $19.99 Commercial Free
All Viacom Stuff (CBS, NICK, etc) is on Paramount+ for $9.99 Commercial Free
All Universal (NBC, USA, SyFy, etc) is on Peacock for $9.99 Commercial Free
Discovery/Food Network/HGTV, etc is on Discovery+ for $6.99 Commercial Free
AMC+-$8.99 for Commercial Free

So the majority of programming that you get via Traditional Service for basically under $56 and all the extras like the original shows on Disney, Hulu, Paramount that you would miss if you only had Traditional Service with a higher price.

No DVR/Box fees either.

Also, with Streaming, you do not have to get all those services, I have no interest in Discovery+, with Traditional Service I am stuck with all the channels in a package, even if I do not watch them.

The other sticking point is sports, but they are finally embracing streaming, my guess all sports will be available on streaming via certain apps within 3-5 years, at what costs I do not know.

Netflix - the oldest service I have had T-mobile pays for the standard pack , I pay the rest.
Hulu - only during Handmaids tale or The Orville.
Disney - Marvel series
Paramount- Star trek and Evil series
Apple tv - paid for by T-mobile

*I also have Xm and Pandora streaming. I use it in my car with Android Auto.
