This is for my uncle who is an old man and doesn't know how to use a computer mouse. There is a website that plays live tv from another country (persian channels from iran). it's not pirated material, it's iran's official broadcasting website telewebion.com
this is the way the website is designed: there are various buttons on the homepage. you click on a button, the channel plays. and then you click another button on the screen, another channel plays. I have connected a laptop to his tv via hdmi cable. but it's not practical for various reasons, the main reason being he doesn't know how to use a computer and keeps messing up my setup. he closes firefox for no reason. he restarts the computer for no reason. he lives 40 miles away so it's not practical for me to keep going to his house every time he has a problem.

is it possible to give him a more tv like experience, where he can sit on his couch and press a remote to change the channels? It doesn't have to be free, I am willing to spend money on equipment, like a receiver or android box or whatever is required.

Telewebion TV is in the Google Store and can play from android devices. I loaded it to my GoogleTV and it came up with Arabic lettering. I think this might work for you. It apparently has 60 channels.
