Unfortunately FTA (acutally FTS) is back working on Dishnetwork.

You would think a multi-billion dollar company could secure their system.

StarChoice is secure.

DirecTV is secure.

BellExpressvu is not secure.

Dishnetwork is not secure.

BellExpressVu and Dishnetwork both get their great security from the Swiss.

I hate to say it, but Swiss security and Swiss cheese have one thing in common.

Wait for it......

They are both full of holes.

If I were Dishnetwork I would get a new CAS provider.

Yes if you get one of them boxes you can flash it back to factory (unless they reall f**ked it up). I had a box a while back that had some old hack software in it and I flashed it back to factory settings :)

I doubt it will be up for long.

Thanks Tron and Iceberg, it's good to know a "Factory Reset" or a "Flash back to Factory" might work (most hopefully). Sad, to know you could still wind up with an unfixable box. I think the percentages will put it in favor of getting one to work. Of course "Murphy's Law" always seems to catch up with me, but I've always been a gambler and usually bet on the longshot. Thanks guys!

Al, to be clear on this, if the rcvr's SW has been altered from the factory standard (whether the first one that was shipped with it or a later rev that was released by the OEM), you need to reflash it with the factory code to bring it back to standard operation mode and a factory reset will not be enough. it will only reset scanned satellites/channels, parental control, color settings and other similar user settings back to deafult, but will not remove any modifications to the factory code.

Most hacker boxes are just illegal software downloaded into it. You should be able to override that with no issues. I did it with an old KUSat 2600. It had an old hack software on it (when Dish upgraded their stuff to Nagra 2) so I flashed it back with the original software. Had to do a little trick to it (hit “ok” on computer and flip switch on unit at same time) but it worked great and now I have a clean box.

I downloaded the factory software on a Pansat 2500 that I got from some hacker with no issues. That box I have to a buddy and it has worked great for a year now.

Do Dishnetwork go. Bring down the hackers for good.

Then I can get a new FTA receiver on the cheap.

I need a Blind Scan receiver.

yes there is....its called "pissing off the hackers by taking down their precious porn channels and PPV" :D

Filthy Hackers!

As a state licensed person I am PROUD to have stuck in MANY here in MN.

I know where you are coming from...

But some of them .. hardly even watch tv.. Really!
Some are mostly interested in statistical information.. (that could be accessed even with a black screen on.. - no picture is needed for statistical info) :)

Do NOT be cheap RVD :)

You need something - JUST buy it.. they are NOT that expensive anyhow

And it's good for economy...

Besides.. - the time is more expensive often.. and if you really need something NOW - the joy of having that Blind Scan will compensate in no time for couple of extra bucks spent ;)

P.S. btw, nice to see you again RVD!

I know what you mean. I regulrry look at the dtatstream with my PCI card.
Assembly programming is a hobby of mine. Seeing how the changes made effects the hackers, and how they counteract the changes is very interesting.

I just wish for Dishnwtworks sake that they would get a new CAS provider.

How they would stay with a CAS provider that does not even know the workings of the MCU they use is beyond me.

I will not discuess the current flaws, but When it takes 5 ROM revisions of a smartcard to fix a MCU buffer flaw it makes you wonder what is going on in the QA department.

Even the current cards have a on-die security feature disabled in ROM.
It makes me wonder why?

Another question that needs to be asked is why Dishnetwork has not sued Kudelski is beyond me.

But then Again Charlie Ergen did have some questionable VCII sales out of the US in his day.

Maybe Charlie E. and Jimmy D. are pirates at heart?

Who knows.
