Given Dish's recent announcement of the couple channels they want to launch this year, I thought it might be good to see what else we want to see.

Since the poll options in vBulliten are limited af far as the number of choices I can offer, here is a link to another poll I set up. Select what you want to see for new HD for Dish. I tried to exclude the following:

1. Channels already announced by Dish they are planning to add "soon" http://www.satelliteguys.us/dish-network-forum/159614-new-hd-dish-2009-a.html
2. Premium channel multiplex channels that they don't already carry (exception some Showtimes that are launching in the near future).
3. West coast versions of channels
4. RSNs
5. Voom, as these are going away
6. The *blank*.TV channels Fios is launching

PLEASE DO NOT WRITE THINGS I DELIBERATELY EXCLUDED INTO THE "OTHER" WRITE IN CHOICE

Included are some channels that don't exist yet.

I'm sure there are mistakes, but let's go with this.

New Dish HD

I'll periodically post results.

Besides some of the channels that were announced, I'd love: AMC, IFC, ESPNU, MLB, MSNBC

I voted for all the Showtimes (+ TMC and Flix), all the Rainbows (AMC, IFC, We), BET, TV One, Fox Business and ESPNU. No disrespect meant to the Fox News fans, but that station shows less HD than CNN. I also voted for E!, Style and G4. I liked Monsters HD, but no way am I voting for that pile of crap that is Chiller.

Has there been movement/rumors again on TCM? I was surprised to see that on your list. That would be #1 for me...I suspect the staff is forcing Turner to do it right, as opposed to their other crap HD channels. Still, I would settle for upscaled letterbox if they would at least pre-zoom it.

It's hard for me to see how they could make a Chiller HD channel. There are a number of shows that were "made for TV" that are 4:3 and would require stretching or pan and scan - or telecined and left with pillarboxes, I guess. I don't know. I woud just like to see as many HD channels as possible.

RFD-HD was misidentified in the poll as "Rural Featured Development" TV or something just as decieving and stupidly identified.

I have NEVER EVER heard RFD-TV or RFD-HD beging called ANYTHING other than "RFD-TV".

VERY MISLEADING in your poll!

My bad. I think it once stood for, as listed, Rural Farm Development, but it now stands for Rural Free Delivery. But it is an acronym!

After 19 responses, TCM is in the lead with 12, followed by AMC and IFC with 11 and MSNBC and MoreMax with 10. More complete results later. Keep voting!

Other includes a plea for PBS (local, so no included in the choices), Fox Movie Channel HD, Mojo HD (This channel no longer exists as of Dec 1st), all movie channels, NASA HD.

Interestingly, The top vote getter does not yet have an HD version (Get moving Mr. Turner!).

Tied for number 2 is Fox News, which is likely to come with Speed and FX, both an Charlie's list already.

Charlie also needs to get patched back up with Rainbow Media, as IFC and AMC are also high vote getters.

I want my NASA-HD!!! It's "free", so the only reason not to to include it would be lack of transponder space. With Ciel-II operational in a few months, hopefully that removes that restriction.

1) The aspect ratio has nothing to do with creating an HD master, only the type and availability of the source material. Gone With The Wind and The Wizard Of Oz are not widescreen, does that mean they aren't worthy of having HD masters made?

2) Pan & Scan means the reverse of what you think it means. P&S is used to fit widescreen material into 4:3 screens by moving the picture left and right. (Though, I suppose you can crop the top and bottom and move the picture up and down...I don't know if anyone does this, but it would be called Tilt & Scan if they did.)

3) Of course they would have to be telecined- that's how HD masters are made.

4) Hopefully, they would be left pillarboxed if appropriate...Universal seems to be good at that. There are other options, depending on the source material. HDNet has showed many old 4:3 TV programs in 16:9 that looked just fine...I would have to directly compare to the originals to understand how they did it, but they did.

When Sleuth was announced years ago, it was always intended to be an HD channel. Universal saw that they had a huge library of cop show masters that could be converted to HD, but would probably otherwise never find a home. I would assume Chiller was created the same way. I only saw it a few times before I switched packages, but it looks like almost everything they show COULD be converted to HD. Hopefully, the delays in launching both of these channels means they are trying to do it right and get as much converted as possible before launch.

Oh you city folk. :D RFD has always meant Rural Free Delivery...

[ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RFD"]RFD - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia@@AMEPARAM@@/wiki/File:Disambig_gray.svg" class="image"><img alt="Disambig gray.svg" src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/5/5f/Disambig_gray.svg/30px-Disambig_gray.svg.png"@@AMEPARAM@@commons/thumb/5/5f/Disambig_gray.svg/30px-Disambig_gray.svg.png[/ame]

But get this. If you google "Rural Farm Development" in quotes, the first hit is RFD-TV.

I thought "Maybe he's right!" Or maybe the CHANNEL is wrong. But nope...they know exactly what it's supposed to mean.

RFD-TV - Rural America's Most Important Network

So while you were wrong, apparently so many other people are wrong that they put the wrong phrase in their keywords to make sure you could find them.

BTW...meant to ask you. Why did you leave off the ____.TV channels? I don't want them myself, but they should certainly be an option. They are much more "real" than, say 29HD or whatever that is called, which is basically just a webpage.

These are not exclusive to FIOS, they are just the only ones who have announced a deal. I agree these probably don't have a chance...Charlie doesn't want to deal with a "mini-Voom"...but if they're cheap enough, who knows.

Considering I just switched to TurboHD, prior, my kids had the Nickelodeon channels. I no longer have those ... would love to have those guys in HD ... thankfully there are enough Disney HD to keep them happy.
