I've been a DirecTV customer for about 2 months now and there's something that's been bugging me about the Plus DVR and my local channels.
Back in June, I had the service installed, all was fine until I left for a week in July. I came back and found the DVR was messed up from a storm that we had earlier in the week. I bet I was on the phone for an hour with Tech Support, going over 3 or 4 different methods to make sure the DVR was faulty. After hooking up the replacement and getting it activated, everything was fine... until a couple weeks later.
Last week, I had my DVR set to record several shows on my local channels, when I went to check on the recording one evening the channel was correct... but MSNBC was on instead. So after the DVR finished recording, I checked to make sure it was the right channel, as it was. So I check a couple other local channels and see where it was the following...
CBS was showing MSNBC
ABC was showing The Home Shopping Network or the one like it
NBC was showing The Soap Opera Channel
I figured that the DVR just needed a reset, so while resetting it (red button), I went ahead and got on the phone in case it didn't work. Well, I get ready to push 0 for the next person available and it comes back fine. So I hang up and let it go and keep tabs on it.
About 3 or 4 days later it does it again, so this time I try resetting it and nothing, I call Tech Support and the guy asks if the person I talked to activating the DVR had me do a software push. I tell him no. So after telling me how to do it, I get that going and reset it once complete... it works.
The next day, it does it again, I'm pretty hot at this point... as I don't understand this. So I call and talk to someone in Tech Support, he tells me to format the drive/reset to factory default. So after formatting the drive, I am now unable to see the local channels listed. Before the channels would show up and able to punch in on the remote... now it's like they don't even exist. I did a software push as well, in fact the guy had me try it a couple different times.
When I told the Tech about this, he set up to have someone come out and look at the second dish that pulls my local channels. He said that it could be a bad LNB, a bad box, dish, wiring, etc. So a couple days later someone comes out and takes a look at the problem.
The guy tells me that he did a signal test and it's fine, he changed the LNB as well He said the problem was due to the cable in the walls of my Apartment. He said that the DVR is not able to pull that much juice from the 2 dishes, and to fix it, would be laying new cable down.
What I don't understand is this... if it's the cable. why did everything work fine before? Could this also be a receiver problem... or could it in fact be a connection problem? He asked about getting permission to install new cable in the Apt... I told him don't count on it, because the lady that is in charge is a real bitch!
Sorry for the long post, I'm just irriated and confused. I thought I would try looking here for help/answers.
Thanks
