Hey Wholeshoe,
Is that a screw in coupler on your FTA dish pole?
I never thought of that. Seems like a good idea in case you ever want to remove. I'm thinking about installing a big dish ugly ugly. Might be a good
idea to have a screw in coupler a little above ground level in case I ever
need to remove it. Kinda wish I has done that on my FTA pole now...after
seeing your pics.

Screw In Coupler Considerations

You Want to add a waterproofing seal with heat shrink tube over a coupler just to keep the coax nice and water tight also it will help to keep the connector from weathering... I also put some connector grease on all my threads so they are easy to remove if neccesary...

EDIT* Wokeup early this morning.... Didn't Realize that we were talking about a Pipe Coupler instead of an RF Coupler.... Having one of those temporary memory loss moments :yes

PipeDream

That is a pipe coupler on the pole and I did not think of it. That piece of pipe was laying out back of the place I rent and I just put it to good use coupler and all.

Dish setup :)

first picture is of the 5 dishes...on the roof is
Far left is 30" motorized
2nd is StarChoice dish
3rd is Dish500
Far right is 30" fixed for Galaxy10

Closup is DirecPC and LNB's for Galaxy3C, and the 2 Expressvu's

2nd picture is just a rigged setup of 148 & 61.5

I know I could put a DBS LNB on the motorized and get rid of 2 dishes and 4 LNB's....but why?? :D

Hello Siliconswamp, "BTW neat Name!!"

I am wondering how much it cost for the Americast Digital Receiver?

I was hoping to get local COFDEM 2.7 GHz news feeds here in Albuquerque and also I am a ham radio ops N5XZS, want to get into two way digital video comunications.

Happy TV DXing!!

iceburg,
is that really you on the avatar?? do you realize when you kick off how many starving africans you could feed ?! take that ham head with 200, 000 lbs of potatoes and 100,000 lbs of po ta toes and you could end starvation for years!!! donate your head to humanity !!

is it just me or this is not an appropriate post? (and I do believe that I have a sense of humor).

Dude! Iceberg, it's cool man. And damn, It's looked exactly like my house's roof. I cannot wait till no raining and take the picture to compare with yours. Seriously, my set-up almost as same as yours! Come back and check it out!

Wholeshoe very nice instal...
Iceberg, holy moly man! That’s a lot of dishes! LOVE THE DUCK TAPE!!!!!
This is my dish
Fortec star 95cm
Not very impressive but i love to show it off :D
The pole is a cement filled fence pole from home depot
The pole goes 4 feet underground into solid a cement base
The sg2100 barely fits on the pole.
9' solid copper grounding rod DEEP into ground to protect from lightning
Samsung .7 degree lnb (now broken  ) dss lnb for music and NASA
diseqc switch for lnb switching
Last picture highlights bolt I added to ease dish alignment.
Without bolt dish is cumbersome when pivoting on those 2 sliding screws.
When it gets warmer I plan fixing the crooked lnbs and cleaning up the install..

Americast was donated to us by our partner

Amaricast recievers were donated to us by our partner sponsors... I have no idea on cost... As for using it for DATV, this would require a lot of modifications as the frequency for this is in the 5 ghz range as far as what I have seen from the setups on the receivers.

Would be of some use but you would need a digital television encoder of some sort that could encode the video.... Maybe you could use a digital encoder that they use in sat uplink trucks as well as a homebrew exciter and PA (Down East Microwave has some of these) then you could just make a transverter to hook to like a fortec star...

Just an idea... Would be expensive... You could alwas do like I do and turn 2.4 ghz wireless networking stuff into Part 97 Devices... Put an amp on the back from wi sys, hook up the computer with a cheapie usb video camera and bingo digital atv and networking. My long haul kd5jfe/1 Wireless is going about 20 miles right now with experimental antennas...

You are however limited to what channels you can run as we have priority on a few... There was an article in QST that I may be able to find and quote on that....

Good to see a ham radio op interested in all this stuff... Its fun..

Cheers,

Elias

some nice pictures there folks!

It's funny with my setup. All that was up there was a Dish500. When I first got into FTA, I got one dish (the one on the far right) that was ghetto moved to G3, AMC9, and G10. Then I got a 2nd dish and had them at G10 and AMC6 (when KUIL was there).
Got motorized and added the StarChocie dish when I got StarChoice.
The DirecPC dish came along when I couldn't get the ND Sioux games real well (their signal is low with a 30")

The 2 on the TV antenna mast are just some test setups....to see how an upside down dish would work and to get 148 so I could see if there was anything free on there :)

I also eliminated the crap. Yes dragon was out of line. It was funny with the first post, but coming on here saying "steroid use" because no head "could mutate like that"

I won't say whether or not that's me but here is the rest of the picture for your enjoyment
