so 6 months ago we moved out to the country, where we had to get dish, as cable was not an option. The installer told me I could take a receiver 50 miles north to my cabin to use, if I wanted, when I asked him, well he told me I would have to do a check switch, and so on. Well here's issue at home I have a HD dish satellite, with 2 boxes, that each feed 2 tv's, but the house I bought had a dish 500 satellite. What steps do I need to take step by step in order to get cable at my cabin? Now understand I go to my cabin maybe once a month, for a day, so I'm not trying to get over on dish. Please and thank you for the help

Take your receiver to the cabin, plug in wire from Dish to back of receiver where it says Sat in. Plug receiver into tv, power on receiver, select menu button and press 6,1,1 on Dish remote, then select check switch. Let it run the check and select save and then back your way out of the menus. The receiver will download a new guide for the different Dish setup. Be aware you will not get the HD channels on 129, since you are using a Dish 500.

When you return to your main home, repeat the above steps for the Dish 1000.

After the check switch a big box will appear.. Its says you have fewer satellites are you sure you want to save press yes and it will ask you again and still say yes.. The only thing you will be missing are some HD channels.. But you should still have all channels..

The home receivers are dual tuners and probably have separators, the dish 500 will probably need 2 lines run from the dish unless he is lucky enough to have a DPP Twin.

More like almost all but a few... That being said you are correct.

OP, if SD is all you need at the cabin, the 500 will be just fine.

As boba said if it's not a DPP LNB (will have DP Plus logo on LNB if it is) then you will need a line for each tuner.

More help please

So I was trying the 611 and do check switch but I was still having issues? I have it set exactly the same as my neighbors-it's level facing 227 degrees on compass, 110, and 30 on dial settings. But I. Keep getting error codes. I had a DP triplexes hooked to back of receiver so I removed but only had 1 cable coming from sat, it was to the 119 eye, so I added another cable to 110, and ran the 110 to sat 1 in, and 119 to sat 2 in, then even swapped the 1 & 2, and nothing. Here are some error messages

Reception error
problem with connections
one of the satellite inputs or switches is not connected properly, normal operation will be adversely affected

On my point dish menu I put in zip, chose dish 500, tuner 1' and tried sat 110, then 119, what transponder should I choose?

God please help, it is very appreciated

I can't figure out how to upload error msgs from my iPhone or iPad, I can text them to someone if you want to see them & may be able to help? Thanks so much, all help is appreciated

That is not a TV Antenna that just pointing it in the right direction will get a picture. A satellite dish is aimed at a satellite about the size of a van 22,300 miles out from the equator. It is a precise point that the dish has to be aimed at. The location you have "aimed" at is just a starting point to get you into the ballpark. I would suggest hiring a professional installer, if that isn't possible search for installation instructions and be prepared for using a lot of patience.

Even a small aiming move makes a difference. Think of it this way, if not anchored correctly, even the wind blowing would make you lose your signal. You have to be precise.

And while you are hiring that professional installer, have him install a dish exactly like the one you have at home. It will make your life so much simpler.....

Was this Dish already in place or are you trying to do a new install yourself? If the Dish was already in place, that doesn't mean it is still aligned.

Did you run the check switch? You have 2 different types of Dishes/LNB's, you need to run the check switch, so the receiver knows what type of Dish and switches it is working with.

If you are trying to do a new install, then the Dish has to be precisely aligned. An 1/8 of an inch off and you won't get anything.

If you're not overcome enough with this, you may have to do a check switch without anything connected to clear the matrix. Then proceed.
