planting a ku dish

ok just an update got the pole planted and a question how soon can i mount the dish to the pole, trying to beat a rain storm also will a hose clamp hold the lnb bracket?

I would allow at least 24 hours. 36-48 would be better. The curing time is going to vary depending upon how you mixed the concrete and the outdoor and ground temperature and somewhat with the humidity.

You can use a hose clamp to secure the LNBF if you have to. Better use two if you can do so. But, why do you think you need a hose clamp? Is the LNBF and the mounting bracket not exactly compatible?

I cut it twice, and it's still too short :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

If you get a short section of pipe that just slides over the post and use it as a couplimg. Weld it to a length of pipe the original diameter and drill and tap the new coupling to lock it to the old post you should be fine.

the pole i used was to short is there a way to extend it without digging up the pole and starting over:(

Jmc,

What kind of pipe did you use for the start of this project?

If you used 1 1/4" galvanized water pipe (or 2") then it wil be simple, just get a coupling and a extra piece of pipe. But, be careful of this as often the threads are not perfect and the attachment will not be plumb, so you have to try a few couplings and pipe sections to match the threads and keep it plumb. If you tell the hardware store what you are doing, they will understand and you can return what you don't use.

Otherwise, if you used some other type of pipe, you will have to make a sleeve to fit over the existing pipe and drill it and tap it or bolt it or weld it together to ensure that it cannot move at all and that it is also plumb. Like Cadsulfide mentioned.

I like using the threaded water pipe, personally. You can construct just about anything you need. My setup is akin to a jungle gym! I can even climb it like a jungle gym to reach each one of my dishes and make adjustments.

1 5/8" fence post

Jmc,

That is some pretty thin walled tubing. I would honestly recommend that you replace it. You will be more pleased in the long run, I think.

I would install 1 1/4" galvanized water pipe for dishes up to 90 cm and 2" diameter for dishes 90 cm up to 1.2M. It is so much more versatile and it cannot be crushed by the motor clamp and if you happen to nick it with the lawnmower, it won't buckle or bend it.

That is just my own opinion and that does not mean that I am absolutely correct. The decision is ultimately your own. I just like my setup to be extremely sturdy.
