I'm not dumb enough to give anyone my smartcard info... but just a warning to those who might, I just got this email. Either it's a blanket email hoping to get some Dish Network customers or they got a hold of some customer list.

Due to the overwhelming response to Distant Networks, we are experiencing significant delays with our Network Eligibility & Qualification status. To ensure we establish the proper qualification & connection requirements for you, we will also need your individual unique satellite receiver # (i.e. smart card or access card #).

Thanks for your patience & understanding. Please allow 7 to 10 days for a response.

Smart Card/Access Card # |________________________|

Email address: |__________________________| needed for us to respond back to you,

That is the email that NPS sends you when they deny your request for DNS at the mydistants.com web site. It is a system generated email. You will get one each time you put your info in the mydistant website. If you do not want to respond that is up to you, but at this point it is the only other way to request DNS if they can not approve through the website. It is a legit e-mail, I know because a CSR at mydistants .com read it to me verbatim when I called them about it.

I think I'll just wait out this process, anything that involves me giving out that info by email doesn't make me at all comfortable.

There was some reports that they are taking the info over the phone when you call them but that has not happened to me on any of the calls I have made to them.

I understand your concers and it is a prudent decison not to send the info. I was hesitant at first until I got a confirmation from a csr at the NPS call center that it was in fact them sending the request..

Haven't heard anyone having any problems from giving their smartcard via the email but its only been a few days. Can't hurt to be careful I guess.

Why do they want smart card/access card number when they are only dealing with DISH? Access cards are Directv terminology.

Here is the information on the IP. If you keep getting this E-mail and want it stoped you might contact them.
