Philo Tv debuts 37 channel streaming package for $16 a month

No credit card to get 2 day trial.

PQ seems pretty good so far.

Downfall no Apple TV app :(

However for $16 this is a winner

No program guide to speak of yet on the Roku. After the trial we promptly dropped it. Wife wanted Hallmark Channel too. I emailed Philo and told them of the above issues and said we might try again down the road

My wife and I are strongly considering jumping at this. $16 a month is pretty sweet for the selection of channels. We watch very little live TV and this has the right channels we want. I might add sling during NCAA Tournament for the month only.

Go for it and let us know how you like it. There's a free trial, but the downside is you MUST give them your mobile phone number to sign up. There's no way around that at present. You can't give them a fake one either, as they send you an activation code that way.

I have tried it for two nights. Here are my first impressions:

1. It is a slimmed down package, so it depends on whether it has the channels you want as to whether it is worth it.
2. My favorite feature is that when you switch to a channel, it starts at the beginning of the show.
3. It saves 3 days worth of shows for most every channel, so you can watch shows you missed without having to DVR them.
4. On the first night, it didn't connect after trying to change channels, and I stopped watching it. But it was able to connect again last night and didn't have the problem.
5. The roku app doesn't have a guide, but it is easy to navigate from channel to channel. Each one has an icon of the current show on. The web app has a guide that is horizontal instead of vertical.
6. I am not sure if Philo has contracts that include connections to any TV Anywhere apps. I checked with A&E and they are not on there.

I was out of town two nights and my wife said she went to the app and it made her log in. I decided to cancel before the trial ended. I may try it again later because of the price point, but if it is going to make me (or my wife) log in, it is a no-go. She wants something where she can just click and it works.

Also heard that DirecTV Now is going to add the 72 hour lookback feature and the restart the current show feature when they add their DVR. At this point, we are still paying a low price for DTVN compared to what we were paying for Dish a year ago, so I think I am going to stay with them for now.
