Panasonic remote Question

I have a Panasonic EM-46s that I am having an issue with the remote. I have had it for a few months and really haven't gotten into all the capabilities like DVD recording, dubbing, etc.... The problem I am having is with the remote. When I go into the menu and go the screen that allows me to set recording such as time, tape speed, etc... the screen will suddenly disappear before I have an oppurtunity to do anything. The other menu screens stay on until I do something but the other is driving me nuts!!! I have to be very quick and it takes me awhile to do anything with delayed recording. I was wondering if it might just be a bad remote and if so is there a universal replacement or can I find a good substitute from Panasonic? Thanks

I am not familiar with your equipment, but from your description I would suspect that the problem might be not in the remote but in the recorder itself. If that's the case, then replacing a remote would not help.
