Panasonic DMP-BD35 and DMP-BD55

Anyone have any idea or guess if Amazon repeats sale prices (DMP-BD55) or bundle deals days or week(s) after one goes off? 12/18! damn, I obsessively 'researched' one day too long. That happened to me on another site a week ago. I wonder if I there is a message for me in there somewhere...

Question on the SD card. How is that used, what function does it perform? What would be the advantage of getting a significantly bigger than the min. rec. of a 1mb SD card?

Cables I'll Need to hook up BD55

Just so I make sure I have all the cables I need for when my BD-55's arrival, I wanted verify what cables I'll need.

1) Audio to 5.1 non HDMI AVR: (6) RCA digital/ SPDIF component audio cable

2) Video to Mitsub. 73" HDTV(3.1 HDMI): Do I use HDMI to TV? I have spare 1.3a HDMI cables.

3) My current SD DVD player has video to TV using Component Video cables. Audio to AVR with Toslink. So will the Blu Ray sound and look pretty much the same as HD broadcast via Comcast cable, or noticably better?

I guess 3 pairs of those would work, or you could just get a 5.1 audio cable set.

Yes, you want to use HDMI input with your BD55 whenever possible.

Depends on the disk, but in most cases it will look and sound noticably better! :)

Stuart, I have a few questions. To preface, I have an early model PS3 60GB.

Is the BD35 quiter while running and accessing the menus then the PS3? (The fan noise on my PS3 at times is very distracting since the 2.0 upgrade.)

Does the BD35 run cooler? (interested in moving it into my stack)

Does the accessing speed on the menu on the BD35 come close to accessing the menu on the PS3?

Do you feel the BD35's PQ and/or Audio quality is improved over the PS3?

I have been looking real hard at the BD35 and since 'Live' is not my bag I am not all that interested in 2.0 compatibilty but I am interested in simplifying my BD viewing and I am interested in moving on to a dedicated BD player. Thanks for any input you might have.
 
Joe, I'm not stuart, but (I have a PS3 and BD55)

BD55 is quieter than my PS3. PS3 is not overly loud, but you can hear it like you mentioned.

BD55 is cool to the touch for me. Can't say that about the Sammy 1500 I had (ouch!)

PS3 menu speed is still top notch. There are a few movies that have some load delays on the BD55, but after everything is loaded it's fine.

PQ wise, I would say it's better both BD and SD on the Panasonic then the PS3. AQ is the same for the most part, but I have different brands of receivers for the PS3 and Panasonic with different settings.

BD30 and BD35 were quieter than PS3

BD30 and BD35 run very cool

BD35 is still not as fast as PS3, but much better than BD30

BD30 and BD35 look better than PS3 IMHO.
 
Thanks guys, I think I am going to get a BD35 or the very next model from Panasonic.
 
BD-LIVE

Just purchased a Panasonic BD-55. I have viewed several B-ray movies w/BD-Live. I am unable to get BD-Live to work. My internet connection is fine. It passed the connection test, and it works fine with Viera Cast and my Directv STB. When I select the BD-Live option on the B-ray, it states that I am not connected to the internet. Any suggestions on what I am doing wrong?

Make sure to insert and format an SD or SDHC card (sold separately). Without the card most of BD-Live features will not work.
