Pairing a 922 remote to a joey

I tried searching and couldn't find the answer (probably using a wrong keyword)

How do I pair my 922 remote with a Joey? Went to the system info screen but it listed a remote there which was for the joey. Please help.

If it is like the process for 40.0 remotes you go to the system info screen and hold down the SAT button on the remote until it beeps.

The on-screen instructions say to press and release the SAT button. That works, but what they don't tell you is you need the 32.0 remote VERY close to the receiver. 5' away didn't work but 6" did! The remote does beep when pairing is successful.
