Have an old fiberglass dish that is badly stained and appears to be getting a rough, porous surface. Can I use a good quality spray paint to seal it? Not sure of the effect of solvent paint on weather-worn fiberglass. Might need to coat first with a primer. Thanks.

I wouldn't use any solvents. Usually scrub it down with TSP, rinse, dry and get out the sprayer or roller and apply one or two coats of quality outdoor latex based paint. Only use primer after patching a damaged area.

Went with Behr exterior latex, with an undercoat of KILZ with stain blocker. Looks great, just like it came out of the mold hee hee.

The wife and I want to use multiple colors on our fiberglass dish, but it looks like all the small containers are interior latex. Think that might be okay if the dish is on a balcony and not seeing too much rain and such? What about artsy oils or acrylics?

Okay okay okay, here is the masterpiece! :sorry Thank you for the interest.

Behr paint comes in quarts in white, exterior. I guess you can have them (Home Depot) mix up a color as you wish. I agree, painting a dish is a personal thing, might as well paint polka dots, stripes, murals, whatever suits your taste. I used paint pads for thin coats. One coat of KILZ, then about three very thin coats of latex exterior white satin. Back of dish I used a brush, what with all those nooks and crannies. Rustoleum gray was used for LNB arms.

Just had to keep the original logo on so taped it off.

Haven't got that dish elevation gizmo correct yet, trying to find a bolt with the same threads per inch as the original, which is a very fine thread. The old bolt was frozen solid; had to use propane torch, WD40, some banging and incantations to a higher power to finally loosen.
