Frostbite Falls
I just suspended my Netflix subscription because there doesn't seem to be enough new first release Blu-Ray films available to justify the $17 per month. I don't think Netflix is at fault. They do seem to carry what is available. Any speculation on a general time frame when Blu-Ray will be able to keep pace with new SD-DVD releases?

Netflix is at fault. They aren't getting enough movies. Sometimes it's the studios that restrict the number of rental copies--a la Bladerunner. Netflix said they might raise subscription prices for Blu-Ray users.

Consider Blockbuster Online--they're $1/month cheaper anyway.

I switched to BB a couple of months ago after being with Netflix for over 6 years over the Blu-ray availability issue. I don't know if it's because i was a new sub, but BB was giving me everything at the top of my queue, even it was on Long Wait or Very Long Wait.

I don't think BB has quite the number of releases on BD as Netflix. Case in point, Netflix has had Black Snake Moan on BD since its release, but on BB its in my Save queue awaiting its "release."

The in-store exchange was also pretty handy until my local BB went from a 7-day to 5-day rental policy, meaning more than one trip in the car per week to return movies. (I think they also eliminated the "no late fee" one-week grace period before charging your credit card for the full purchase price of the movie).

I am not unhappy with BB (their processing and mailing times were as good as Netflix), but I will likely switch back to Netflix in the next month or two before the 90-day hold period on my account is up.

Sounds like Netflix isn't any better off than my local Hollywood Video store. They only have 2 copies of "I Am Legend" on BD and they always seem to be checked out. Same at the 2 Blockbuster stores near my home. I think I'm just going to wait for PPV. Don't want it bad enough to pay $30 for it on BD, or even $20 on DVD. $4.99 on PPV will suit me just fine.

Since my local Block Buster has dropped HD DVD and sold off the inventory ( bought a couple at good prices) I expected to see more titles coming in on Blue Ray. In fact the number of new titles has fallen way off and we now seem to get 2-3 new Blue Ray titles once a month. When HD DVD was in hot competition, the BR titles were coming out each week.

Competition WAS a wonderful thing! Too bad we had to have one format.
