P3.01 Release for Models 501/508/510

Got the new release

Hi,

Got the release on both my 501 and 510. "Improved" interface is sure a matter of opinion. My 8 year old hates it, and so do I.

They took what was a full, easy to read screen and compressed it so it only took up a small portion of the screen. The dish logo is near as big as the rest of the guide. I've been looking for an option to reset it to the old way. So far no luck.

P301 is not trouble free, of the three 508's i had trouble with two. One is shutting down, but the green light is on and TV screen is snowy, while trying to update the guide at 2:45 am. I missed the end of the show i was watching, trying to reboot the reciever. The second had problems with timers but several reboots seem to have solved it, I hope. All were trouble free before P301.

I have three 508's - (two are refirbushed and were bought at very reasonable prices from SatelitteGuys.) All have received the update with no problems at all. I do like the new menus. Considering DISH does not charge for DVR functions on the 508, I am impressed that they are continuing to support them and are going to add NBR soon. I hope this doesn't jinx me - but my 508's have been rock solid. I have had my original one since they first came out.

I posted earlier that my 501 had some pixalation or blocking when going into the new menu. That seems to have cleared up and have had no problems with the updates.

I picked up P301 yesterday on both of my 510's. I don't like the DVR EVENTS screen. Print way to small. A lot of waisted screen. I couldn't find the so called Super Diagnostics either. I am happy to report that the software update did go smoothly without any known obvious problems.

Guess you can't please everyone. ;) The "Super Diagnostics" are in the "System Info" section under Setup.

The Super Diagnostics run when you check the "System Info" after it finishes, click on "Details" and it will give you some information about the diagnostics. If you are experiencing signal loss, it will tell you.

I looked in "System Info" nothing labeled "Super diagnostics" All the information provided in system info or system setup in P301 I had in P300. unless I'm overlooking something. I'm just glad that they still work as before the update. :)

Well no, it's not labeled Super Diagnostics. The System Info screen is all different than P3.00. If you select "Details", it will give you info about your system.

I noticed someone ask when is NBR coming out. Well, I have to ask, if dish is going to upgrade everyone to MPEG4 this year with new receivers will they replace my DVR510 with a MPEG4DVR for free? I would really be upset having to "BUY" a new one.

The MPEG4 transition will take at least 3 years and E* has indicated they will have some type of swap/upgrade program. The only MPEG4 programming slated for this year is HD.
