P266 Dark Video Thread

Well today after talking to Dish about the numerous web boards about the dark hd ouput issue with dvi, some with component and some with sd ouput, Nancy the tech told me that I could not get a rma on my 811. She had told me first that this was not a known bug with the 811( deny, deny ,deny), then when I told her of the web board threads , she said since this was known issue I couldn't get a rma since the new replacement would probably do the same thing as my old one. What the F**k? Is it a known issue or not? Either way she took my info about the dark dvi ouput and about the web site address so the techs could read themselves, ( like they don't know from reading these web boards already) and then said that the new software update 268 would address the dark output problems with all the outputs. I still haven't received the 267 software update. For a company that says that there is no known problem with the hd outputs , then why are they doing a software update to address these unknown issues? Either way I think Nancy should go into government service with that kind of double talk. I left the conversation feeling more confused than before I called. :confused:

I don't know about cooler but Im sure it costs less to fix :) I had a 1965 Triumph Spitfire for a while back in the 70s. Every time the thing broke it emptied my wallet.

I had similar experience with CSR and demend to speak her supervisor as I told her that being a paid customer, I deserve the first rated service. After that, the CSR (who deos not have even basic knowledge of the equipment) referred me to so call "Advanced Tech Support". In just few minutes, they agree to replace both of my 811s via second day air. I will see the new unit will make any better or different.

Thanks , I might try that one myself. It couldn't hurt to replace it. Of course with Dish I might be just trading one set of problems for another. ;)
 
Been there. Done that.
The rma thing sounds like it's worth it but you'll only get back the same defective 811 that you send. It's just another hassle to deal with. Disconnecting everything... reconnecting... waiting for the update. My advice.. don't bother waisting your time or even getting A hope up. You'll still have the problem. Do it if you must be it's an energy waisting exercise.
I can only hope the next release addresses these "unknown" issues just as 266 was supposed to.

Little hope. Little energy. A lot steamed.
