owning vs leasing

That's not the issue. The issue is how much the replacement "purchased" receiver is going to cost. You make it sound as if they do this for the cost of a truck roll whether you have DISH Protect or not.
I had my purchased 722 replaced twice for the 1 month cost of the protection plan. I still have the last one and it is definitely still purchased.

It shouldn't come as a surprise that most don't subscribe to any of the three DISH Protect plans. What used to be the common practice (and it may still be) was to sign up for a DISH Protect plan when a purchased receiver failed and then unsubscribe after the minimum term. Given that the MTBF of a typical STB is measured in years, it may not make sense to subscribe full-time at $131.88/year. YMMV, depending on your environment and/or weather.
Yes we will replace the receiver for free. And they still do add dish protect free for 1-3 months sometimes. You can definitely get your purchased receiver replaced for absolutely zero cost

If you have to pay for a DISH Protect plan or a truck roll, that clearly involves a non-zero cost.
I said you "can" not you will for sure. Like I said you can argue with them and threaten to cancel and they will almost always waive the tech visit fee or add dish protect free for a month. It's up to you if you want it to be completely free by how good you can argue but it can be done at zero cost without paying for dish protect.

I'm not really sure why you're so stuck on arguing about this so much. I'm a technician and I've literally replaced many many purchased receivers for customers at zero cost to the customer over the past 10 years. It's doable.

Same, I refuse to allow Dish to charge a fee to upgrade to a 6 yr old Technology using receivers that are, in most cases, refurbs that have been out in the field previously/

Are the fees different for Hopper Plus vs a Hopper 3? Just curious. It seems like the separate forums are less and less necessary.

I have no idea what you guys are talking about in this thread lol. Hoppers Duos are $10 a month. Hopper Sling and Hopper 3 are $15 a month. Joeys are $7. There's no additional fee for the Hopper Plus. It still costs the same monthly fee for leased or owned equipment. The advantage to owning your receivers is no credit check, no credit card activation, and no contract (unless you agree to lower programming price with a contract). During the first 24 month contract, hoppers were $5 off and Joeys were $2 off. I think they've stopped that, because recent installs haven't reflected the discounts for new customers.
The protection plan varies by state. Some states protect you from that fee. Usually you can get the CSR to give you a free month for a tech visit no matter where you live.
As with everything else, WHO you are talking to makes a difference. One CSR will say you have to have to pay, the next will say otherwise.

I guess you didn't read each post.

I thought the same thing but I actually went back and looked at customers bills that had purchased equipment (I'm a tech), and every single one that was purchased was $5 instead of $7. And instead of the receiver model listed it said additional receiver access.

From my most recent bill for my two owned Hopper w/Slings and one Joey.

so, flipping this around a little bit, I just canceled my service with dish and I own the Hopper 3 and 2 joey's and they tried to tell me that I could not sell them. anyone heard anything like this? I think it is crazy that they tell me I am unable to sell something that I own.

I DID read each post, and I know exactly who you are, Troy lol.
Customers can get loyalty discounts if they get the right CSR (account specialists) on the phone and agree to certain terms, but overall pricing on receivers is standard.

You absolutely can sell them. You own them. But the sucker that buys them won't be able to activate them, most likely. This is why purchasing receivers from 3rd parties is risky. It doesn't make business sense for Dish to allow used receivers to be sold and activated on different accounts. They would rather you get new or refurbished equipment. It cuts down on the scams and problems.

I'm not sure who you are, if you know who I am. But I will say you are handing out wrong info lol. I have confirmed as well as others that a purchased receiver is $5 a month instead of $7. No loyalty discount. It must of changed in the last test but it is correct that it's $5.
And also any purchased receiver as long as it's not linked to an account anymore can definitely be activated. I've done it for customers before. If csr is not wanting to activate it then they don't know what they are doing.

View attachment 161984

I own one of my two Hopper3 receivers and I own my Joey3 client. I do receive the price reduction from $7 to $5 for my Joey3. But I pay the full price of $15 for my purchased Hopper3. Dish agents have tried many times to get the reduced price for my purchased Hopper3. I have stopped trying. You have two Hopper with sling receivers that you own so that may be the difference.

Here is portion of my bill
Equipment$30.00
Hopper DVR Service$15.00
Hopper Receiver$15.00
Add-Ons$20.99
DISH Protect Gold$10.99
Access For Add'l TV$5.00
DISH Movie Pack 6 Mo (50% Off)$5.00

Also when I renewed my 2 year contract the agent was unable to give the price reduction for the DVR service. He did give me 50% off the Dish movie pack for 6 months.
