Owned ViP 722 dead?

Was happily watching the new HD content yesterday since I have Starz and Cinemax, but awoke this morning to my owned 722 with the fan running at full speed and the left TV 1 LED cycling on and off at a regular interval. Did the front panel hard reset and also a "pull the plug" reboot and it comes back doing the same thing. I suspect the nightly reboot put it in this state in the first place.

So, time to drop Dish or get the DHPP service to get it repaired? I bought it from Solid Signal back in October of 2007.

Also, any chance that the big software update for 1080p being pushed to this receiver may have had something to do with this?

after giving it a little time, do the hard reset again (unplug for about 1 min)..and walk away. do not press any remote buttons or front panel buttons. If this fails to bring all the lights back on with in 5 minutes, click the front panel pwr button. If it still fails to power up, call us and have it replaced. I hope you carry dhpp so there is no cost..

Thanks for the replies. I got in touch with Dish tech support today and they confirmed that I can get a warranty replacement if I pay the shipping costs, which is fine with me. And I'll still own the receiver.

He didn't directly implicate it, but I asked about the new software rollout for the 1080p feature, and he said he was filling out a form to submit to the engineering department in case it was the cause of an otherwise healthy DVR going bad in the same time frame. I am a strong believer in cause and effects, and this too much of a coincident in my experience.

(Not to be negative), but keep an eye on your billing statements... some SatGuys report, during purchases and sometimes warranty replacements, Dish assumes you are leasing your receiver. Just a head's up - it could crop up.

dhpp isn't really necessary until your receiver falls out of warranty, and since you're receiving a replacement, one would think you wouldn't have to consider dhpp until your 722 replacement actually falls out of warranty.

Good luck :)

Before you send the 722 out, look at system info screen and compare all attributes what presented in latests post of RandallA's "New Software" thread.
If you'll have difficulty to decypher, just post yout screen here. Then we could check if your DVR got new version last day.
Ummm, while typed - you can't go to that screen ... well perhaps you remeber it :).

Hah, never had a chance to see that screen and didn't look at it Saturday before it died Sunday! Oh well, maybe they can recover it somehow and see what's running, or rather not running, on it. The replacement will be here tomorrow (Thursday) according to UPS tracking info.

And yeah, I'll watch the statement closely. I re-iterated twice to the tech that it was an owned DVR and he agreed both times based on what his screen showed him, but you never know what billing will do.

Had the very same problem. The receiver woke me up at night it was so loud. In the morning I did several resets: both hard and soft. After several resets I decided to give up and call Dish. But after a while the receiver started to work properly again.

Line of Sight ?
