We have had Sky Angel IPTV buffering problems ever since we’ve gotten the service. We thought we found the answer to the problem whenever we directly connected our set top box to our router. At that point we got a 2.2M throughput and no buffering.
The problem is we never get good throughput during normal internet busy hours. With buffering so bad today that we couldn’t stand we ran another test and found the set top box was only getting .6M of throughput. When we tested our 5M cable internet connection it came back at about 3.8M. That test was done from a server in a nearby city. When we tried to test from Dallas (where our Sky Angel server is) the throughput to our PC was only 1.3M. We received similar results in a test from New York (1.2M). Does this mean that the congestion on the internet is basically making Sky Angel service not feasible? Would it help if we increased the speed of my cable connection above 5M?
Our setup is two PCs, one directly connected to the router, one accessing the router via a wireless connection and the directly connected Sky Angel set top box. The buffering problem occurs even when the PC with wireless access is not even being used.
We have made several changes trying to fix this problem. We bought a new, more powerful router, we switched from a wireless to a direct connect set up for the set top box, and of course we have had Sky Angel change our sever multiple times to no avail.
Is there anything else we can do to make this usable or is this just a technology that really doesn’t work well?
