OTA EPG Info Incorrect or Displaying 'Digital Service'

What is puzzling are the inconsistencies of some areas (or subscribers) getting the data for a specific channel and a different area (or subscriber) not getting the data for the same or same type of channel. In other words, I get guide data for THIS-TV from 2 different channels in 2 different markets. And, gpollok87 is getting nothing from THIS. Go figure...

Eric
i see your eastern time. i am central time. i would take your this tv guide even if it is an hour ahead.

dish quality just emailed me back.

Dear Mr. Pollock,

Unfortunately, I received an update saying that we were not going to able to get this information for you. I do apologize for the inconvenience and if in the future you have any questions or concerns please feel free to email us again.

I wanted to make a clarification since I was a little too vague in my last post. Local channels that are not carried by DISH Network will display "Digital Service" because we have no information on those channels to relay. The reason the guide information is not coming in along with the OTA signal because the PSIP data is not compatible with our receivers. The channels that I am requesting information on are the local channels that we carry that are not showing correct guide information on the OTA channel. If the information is inaccurate I can submit a report so that the proper corrections can be made.

DISH Network does not have the ability to provide the guide information of every channel/sub channel in every local market.

Raymond that is not correct. There are lots of subchannels that have OTA info. See the below pics of my locals in MInneapolis
Dish carrries the guide info for 3 of the 4 PBS channels....including 2-4 which is 24/7 weather. Ironically they dont carry 2-3 which Dish DOES carry as a local under their former analog spot 17
11-2 is another one of those 24/7 weather yet Dish carries the guide
23-2 as you see the guide is off. Under 7:00 it says "80's at 8" ;)

so yes Dish does carry guide info for subchannels. And yes the Fox Mankato station (KEYC 12-2) does show Andy Griffith 5 nights a week ;)
Here is what I gathered from another site that shows all the OTA guide info Dish should carry
2-01 KTCA TSID 0x0645, Subchannel 01 (DISH Channel 6353/8576)
2-02 KTCA2 TSID 0x0645, Subchannel 02 (DISH Channel 14060)
2-03 KTCI TSID 0x0645, Subchannel 03 (DISH Channel 8580)
2-04 KTCI4 TSID 0x0645, Subchannel 04 (DISH Channel 14063)
4-01 WCCO TSID 0x0631, Subchannel 01 (DISH Channel 6348/8571)
5-01 KSTP TSID 0x0647, Subchannel 01 (DISH Channel 6347/8570)
5-02 KSTP2 TSID 0x0647, Subchannel 02 (DISH Channel 14788)
9-01 KMSP TSID 0x0633, Subchannel 01 (DISH Channel 6350/8573)
9-02 KMSP2 TSID 0x0633, Subchannel 02 (DISH Channel 14787)
11-01 KARE TSID 0x0635, Subchannel 01 (DISH Channel 6349/8572)
11-02 KARE2 TSID 0x0635, Subchannel 02 (DISH Channel 14785)
17-01 KTCA TSID 0x0645, Subchannel 01 (DISH Channel 6353/8576)
17-01 KTCI1 TSID 0x0645, Subchannel 01 (DISH Channel 14061)
17-02 KTCA2 TSID 0x0645, Subchannel 02 (DISH Channel 14060)
17-03 KTCI TSID 0x0645, Subchannel 03 (DISH Channel 8580)
17-04 KTCI4 TSID 0x0645, Subchannel 04 (DISH Channel 14063)
23-01 WUCW TSID 0x0637, Subchannel 01 (DISH Channel 8574)
23-02 WUCW2 TSID 0x0637, Subchannel 02 (DISH Channel 14279)
29-01 WFTC TSID 0x0639, Subchannel 01 (DISH Channel 6351/8575)
29-02 WFTC2 TSID 0x0639, Subchannel 02 (DISH Channel 14789)
45-01 KSTC TSID 0x063B, Subchannel 01 (DISH Channel 8577)

The 3 bold ones if they could get fixed I'd be happy :)
5-2 is now 45-5
45-1 is now 5-45

In some markets guide information was added for some sub channels previously, however going forward sub channel guide information is no longer being added.

bummer.
Can you at least look into the 3 bolded ones then?
2-03 KTCI TSID 0x0645, Subchannel 03 (DISH Channel 8580)...have no clue why no guide as everything is right
5-02 KSTP2 TSID 0x0647, Subchannel 02 (DISH Channel 14788)...is now OTA on 45-5
45-01 KSTC TSID 0x063B, Subchannel 01 (DISH Channel 8577)...is now OTA on 5-45

I will submit a report for the guide information on those channels.

Stupid Policy Decision on Dish's part, IMO.
Yes it certainly is. Raymond, please pass on the disappoint of Dish's customers on this.

Dish has, or gets, all of the necessary information/data. Something like this can surely be automated to a large degree.

A couple of points on the last few posts...does the local station carry some responsibility in making sure data for their main PLUS sub-channels is accurately provided to Dish and/or Tribune Media Services? This was a topic discussed in the Charlotte NC section of AVS forums a few months back. Finally - and I'm certainly NOT defending Dish Network - but if DirecTV customers want OTA isn't a separate OTA receiver required that somehow integrates with the sat receiver? Also, aren't DirecTV OTA customers restricted in what they receive - like only in-market channels? At least we Dish customers have no limitations in what we can view OTA.

The local station, I'm positive, is 100% responsible for providing the guide data upstream. That's not the issue here (and most have confirmed that TitanTV, Zap2It, etc do have the data already).

It's my understanding that D*'s receivers operate the same as Dish's in regards to OTA. They have built-in tuners and integrate the data similarly. No idea about the out-of-market situations...

we got bounce tv here not to long ago and i get the guide data. bounce came after this tv. don't understand why bounce tv has guide info but this doesn't? other markets with this tv have guide data? its all kinda confusing to me.

Not entirely correct. While they cannot carry guide info for channels where no info is available from the data providers, they most certainly can provide info for every channel that has such data available.

That's just a kick in the head to their customers with OTA-capable receivers, especially those with DVR functionality.

Stupid Policy Decision on Dish's part, IMO.
In everybody's opinion.

Yes. If the data is out there, and it has been brought to Dish's attention that it is missing from the EPG, then it should be added. It's really that simple.

And, I guarantee that every customer using OTA feels that way.

in my market zap2it and tribune got the new info the day the channels were added (meTV) or channels changed PSIP #'s (KSTC 45 moving to 5-45, ThisTV moving from 45-2 to 5-4). Even the 2 converter boxes I use (one being a DTVPal) shows guide info for all channels but the low powered religious channels.

exactly. The guide info is there on the 3 stations I provided above. The stations decided to move their PSIP # to streamline yet Dish can't get it right. Normally I would say "just record the sat channel" but in 2 of the cases (the 45-5 and 5-45) Dish doesnt carry the station (45-5) or not in HD (5-45) and both are in HD OTA

Please clarify. Non-compliant PSIP data is being sent by the TV stations ?

The majority of people here understand that if Dish doesn't carry the "main" channel, you will NOT get guide data. In most cases, we're referring to, for example, the local ABC, that Dish does carry, and the guide data is WRONG for the '-2' channel. In my area, there is a "TBN" affiliate that I can pick-up. Dish doesn't carry this channel and I've never asked, nor expect, Dish to provide guide data.

In my case with channel 38-4, I had to send an email to Tribune, TitanTV, and TV Guide.

The following day, Zap2It added the channel with the correct data to their guide, TitanTV added the channel, but it only says "NHK Programming" for all time slots, and TV Guide still doesn't have the channel listed. (I have emailed TV Guide again.)

But, since Zap2It is Tribune Media, and Dish gets their data from Tribune afaik, that data should be in the Dish EPG.

Channel 23-02 the guide is off by one hour. For example, what it says is on at 7pm is actually on at 8pm.

What happened to the "Dish Audio" (Muzak) mono-only stations?

"Wrong Satellite" for Channel 1, but Channel 2 sees all 3 satellites
