I am curious how many subs orby has. They may not tell being a startup company.

Have had my Orby system for 10 months and am very happy with the service and quality. It is a perfect fit for my viewing habits and I could quit tomorrow without a chargeback or broken contract.
You could quit tomorrow and have some useless equipment that you paid in full for.
Also, most folks 'viewing habits' would include a lot more channel selection and a lot more HD than Orby offers.
If I quit today, the total Orby subscription and equipment costs would be less than any Dish or DirecTV package, would not incur any penalties and I likely could sell the receiver on Craigslist....
But really, who cares if equipment would became useless at this point? How much value does a Dish or DirecTV subscriber's leased receiver have after 10 months? What penalty would I owe Dish or DirecTV for early termination after 10 months?
Based on the staggering subscription losses on traditional providers, maybe the bloated channel line-ups aren't what people really want or view?
Orby TV is a great choice for me. Sounds like it isn't the right fit for you.
I agree with your entire post. Orby is exactly what I wanted and could not get from Dish or DirecTV. The price is right. Pic quality is fine.As I wrote in another thread, I feel the SD channels are looking better. I have had both of the major satellite providers in the last ten years and found their SD channels unsatisfactory. I certainly do not choose my shows based on SD or HD and believe with this technology it is a rather fluid definition anyways.
There are about three additional channels that I would really like to have, specifically USA, Syfy and Weather. I am sure others have their own wish list.
As far as my investment in the equipment, like other members of this forum, I am something of a hobbyist and enjoyed choosing my own dish and setting it up by myself. I have a Tivo, Roku and Fire TV in the closet so if they were to fail or I just decide to move on it would not be a major catastrophe.
Those 'promotional crap offerings' from Dish are price locked for two years and include all the equipment and installation. Figure out how much the Orby equipment and installation costs and you'll probably find Dish is cheaper in the long run.
After the two years price lock Dish will give a discount on the regular price.
Dish has local channels from satellite, real DVR's, more HD channels, FOX News, etc., etc.
I'm still looking for a real advantage that Orby might have and can't find any.
If I had to choose between Dish, DTV and Orby, I'd take Orby, but I wish they'd get Fox News, but if they lean any further left I wouldn't even care that Orby doesn't have them. I get Fox News off the internet now, so I still get the basic news. Orby's standard package and the Starz/Encore Westerns has most of what I watch anyway. There's one other channel they don't have I'd like to have, but I'm getting it on my BUD now.

Dish flex pack requires me to buy more channel packs to get the ones I want.AT&T unlimited premium and watch att, hulu/YouTube tv, dish flex pack, or philo, are all better offers. About the only group this services is a very tight niche of people who cannot receive wireless, but can receive the big 4 ota networks, and have no use for Disney, fox, and nbc/universal networks, and sports.
I agree 100%. All these people carrying on about HD channels. I simply watch whatever I like. Could care less if its HD or not.I find it curious that posters suggest that the Orby start-up should emulate the failing subscription models. I find it refreshing that Orby is offering a pay-as-you-go model and are not being sucked into carrying the high cost bundles or over-priced sports packages. Proof will be in the pudding if they have chosen the right balance for their target customer base.
Maybe someday the content providers will catch on that the reason that they are bleeding to death is that they shot themselves in the foot!
