My dad thinks EVERYTHING on his HDTV is HD, just because it's on his tv... I couldn't convince him otherwise, so I figure "ignorance is bliss" in this case.
Wow guys I just took the time to read this entire thread and only have one thing to say...there are more important things to argue about, it’s only a hobby/TV
Who's arguing? Just a friendly discussion on the pros and cons of different providers. I'm excited to have a new service to evaluate!
But you still have to speak with a call center person. Orby is way easier. In fact I would be willing to bet the pro‘s here at satguys could order orby stb from bestbuy website install and activated in less time then just calling dish network to order flex/welcome pack.
So you'd rather pay $150 for an install so you don't have to talk to a CSR?
I was going to back your bet, then I realised you said order ( online) , that could take a few days!
Those guys could just walk into a Best Buy and buy one at 100$ and have it up and running the same day!
I wonder if comfortibly- numb knows that?
Consider this scenario: I live in a rural area, our town's population is less than 1000. Every week I get flyers in the mail advertising Dish and Direct. They heavily target rural areas. They all advertise their promotions, all of which have $0 cost to entry. Price points with contracts always somewhere between $29.99-$59.99 with free installs.
Now, imagine if Orby started to advertise in that same circular, and they show "Satellite TV for only $40 per month! Only $250 to get started!"
Which deal is the customer going to take? They aren't going to go home, sit down with a pro/con sheet, get out a calculator, do some math, then take a bet on a company they've never heard of that also could be fly-by-night. They're going to choose Dish or Direct, take the contract, and ride it out or cancel and eat the ETF. Every single one of my neighbors has Dish or Direct, except for one older couple who do OTA. Not a single one of them would pony up $250 for this service and I can absolutely guarantee that.
Can you really? Those guys could just walk into a Best Buy and buy one at 100$ and have it up and running the same day!
Not everyone has a spare Ku FTA dish kicking around that they can dedicate.
When you get old and your vision isn't that great, from 10 feet away I will personally attest that it is very hard to tell the difference.... Also, most people still don't know UHD from HD from SD as long as it is stretched to fit their TV appropriately. Kind of sad that.
You have that wrong HEVC/H.265 is MPEG-H and AVC/H.264 is MPEG-4Remember this is MPEG4 HEVC which means you can put a lot of data into very little bandwidth.
Everyone who has it seems surprised how good the picture quality is.
The new compression is amazing.
Sent from my iPhone using SatelliteGuys
Why is this fail? Have you seen the service yet?
Most SD channels on satellites like 97w Ku and 117w C use 5x the bandwidth and look like absolute crap. I was amazed how good the SD channels looked and now even more impressed after seeing the bandwidth used.
My dad thinks EVERYTHING on his HDTV is HD, just because it's on his tv... I couldn't convince him otherwise, so I figure "ignorance is bliss" in this case.
My wife thinks she's watching UHD channels when they're 1080P. Couldn't convince her, so I purchased a UHD DVD player and a couple movies, the difference blew her mind. Come to think of it, I still haven't received an apology after being told I was just being an a$$hole when I pointed out I hadn't purchased a UHD STB yet and she couldn't be watching UHD channels.
Nah, I'm not going to do it, some things are better left alone.
Yup, happy Wife = happy LIFE!! Ya have to remember that they control ALL the "loving" and half of the money!! If things go wrong, then they'll control ALL THE MONEY ALSO!
If they are still around in a few months and have Fox news, I will give a try. CD quality picture would be fine with me plenty of options for ultra high resolution, this is supposed to be less expensive option. And on paying upfront for equipment anyone with cable is paying at least $125-$150 a month wouldn't be long before you were saving money.
