I recently switched from Dish to DirecTV, and the install will be done in about a week. I was wondering if DirecTV has something similar to Dish where you can use a sling adapter to view programming online or on your phone. Do they have a feature like this built into any of their receivers or would I need to get a slingbox?

You would need a slingbox. I use one and it works great.

Does it also work for scheduling shows and managing your DVR? I know you can do that through DirecTV, but I'd like to be able to do it all in one place.

Pretty much anything you can do with your box at home you can do through sling (although I have not tried scheduling shows with it, for that I use my Directv app from the android market, and available with other OS as well)
