Opinion...mount it high in the attic or low outside?

I just moved into a subdivision that does not allow external OTA antennas. So my plan was to mount mine (round Winegard MS-2000 amplified omnidirectional) in the attic. Now that I see my attic, it's a real pain to work in it since it has the blown-in cellulose insulation, and I'd rather not disturb it.

So I was thinking about trying to be sneaky with the homeowner's association and just mount it right next to my DISH...considering it's circular and "dish-like", I figure I can claim it's a "dish" antenna.

If I do that, the antenna would only be about 10 feet off the ground. If I mount in the attic, it would probably be a good 25 feet off the ground, but indoors.

What's a boy to do?

Your HOA cannot do anything to prohibit you from installing 1-meter satellite dishes and/or external OTA antennas...assuming you don't live in a home listed in the national historic registry or such antennas would create a safety hazard (both extremely rare). Heigth usually is important so 25 ft. would be preferable over 10 ft. Next question is what is the roof construction/sidewall construction? The worst scenarios I can think of would be a metal roof with aluminum siding or stucco over wire mesh. These would ruin the RF signal getting to the antenna in the attic.

Thanks for the info. I knew the satellite dishes could not be prohibited. I guess I should have searched for OTA antennas being banned.

Boba, house is traditional wood frame with vinyl siding, so I think the attic would have worked, but now that I know it cannot be banned, then I'll be putting it outside anyway, so no worries!
