My dog was being an idiot and since I have the larger brain I tossed the babygate down the stairs to startle her. This was followed by "Great honey, you just cracked the f****n' TV!!!"

Is it even worth replacing or should I just buy a new DLP set?

I would fix it over a DLP anyday. Better yet replace it with a new CRT RP HDTV.
CRT is a better technology on all fronts.

I would go with a DLP, LCD or Plasma. With a CRT RP there will always be a convergence issue that will pop up at some time. It is almost impossible to get proper convergence near the corner or edges of the screen.
Also check with any local TV repair shops. Some of these guys keep old junk sets just for this reason.

Wife cousin had there dog break there, he was chained to a chair in the kitched and he swung the chair into it.

Only cost him $200 to fix.

CRT tv's can't display 1080p can they? Thats why I went with DLP plus DLP sets are a lot thinner. The picture is great and I personally don't see rainbows.

What are you watching in native 1080p?

And all I can see is rainbows.

In case you missed it the new sets have separate convergence settings for the edges. I would rather spend 15 minutes once every 3-5 years adjusting my set than 400 bucks replacing a light bulb.

(hey vipers pit, I am not trying to hijack this thread, just a quick question)

I have a sony kpt46wt500, we bought it ohhh about 3.5 years ago, its a crt RP HDtv, how long do you think this will be good for, I have hear 10 years and I have heard 15 years, we watch maybe 2-3 hours of tv a day (that is probably high as we dont really watch much during the summer other then the 360)

It can last you 20 years with that much usage. I would limit the video game time on it. Get a pro to calibrate it and teach you how to blow out the dust inside the set once a year and you will have smooth sailing for decades. Don't let the CRT haters scare you with the "calibration" fear. I have moved my set and it was a ROUGH road to the new media room and it looked perfect with no new calibration needed.

The CRT is just a much better technology than anything else on the market. That is why I added the 65 inch mits with the 9 inch guns BEFORE my old set gave out. The retailers are pushing the new 'digital' sets because they have a MUCH higher markup and planned obsolescence. It is NOT better technology.

If you have room for a 65 inch TV then the depth is not an issue. I measured my 65 inch versus my 36 inch Sony Wega and with the stand the Sony is 1.5 inches DEEPER than the 65 inch projo! The only possible argument that has any weight is the power consumption, but if you can drop 3 grand on a TV the extra money on the light bill is not a real issue. Mine runs $250 a month anyway!!!

Well then DLp isn't for you. How about LCoS? Any of the microdisplays are good choices in terms of picture quality. CRTs just aren't the thing anymore and I hope there no longer made in the near future.

I am willing to bet your set looks pretty bad :)
