OK, so I go home last night and go to DishOnline to see if I can still download some free Olympic HD VOD....

So I click on the TV entertainment button, ....

and see dozens of free TV shows and clips.....

Gene Simmons and Criss Angel episodes. A bunch of 8 minute Dr. Drew clips from Discovery Health. An 8 minute snippet of a KT Tungstall concert on an Ovation program. There are still some $ symbols on the Skinemax type programs, but the bulk of it is free. All of the movies on the other tab are still $$$ overpriced, but it is a good start.

OK E*, you've got me interested. Now please add all the Showtime/HBO/Starz/Cinemax content and make sure those of us who subscribe don't have to pay extra for it...... Feel free to brag about it while you are attacking Comcast in your ads... this was the one area they were cleaning your clock in.....

Oh, and one glitch.... I tried downloading a program called Gemini, um something... The self financed show that Rosario Dawson stars in.... But it crashed without playing on both my 622 and 722..... You click start and it bounces you back to the menu without playing the clip......

Nice start, but keep it going!

They really need to organize the list a bit. By provider, or by topic ... something!

No argument there..... Organize it by studio or provider like they do on the Xbox Live Marketplace.....

I had downloaded the HD VOD of one of the Swimming heats from 2004. The frame rate was horrible. I realize they need to cut the filesize down for downloads, but it was fugly.

I also tried twice to download the Opening Ceremony in HD, each time it got to over 80%. When I lated check on it, expecting it to have finished, there was no sign of it. Not in the listing, not in my history. Waste of time.

They need to orginize it by channel like DirecTV does, at the moment its just an unsifted pile of crap and you have to dig to find the jewles.

It's a good first step, and MUCh more useful to have free content that we can download. The $3-11 PPV programs may be OK for some, but I'm not shelling out for more when I already pay $150 a month..

Sunday Ticket and Extra Innings are the sirens call trying to lure me to D*..... E*'s receivers and a much improved free VOD system would do much to curtail those impulses...

I've been with Dish for about a year now, but I've never used VOD.

How do I know which the Menu 9 - 4 items cost money?

Call me cheap, but I worry about clicking on something just to try it out and then having to pay.

I watched it and agree, it was pretty horrible... it would have been much much better in SD.

The FREE stuff still pretty much sucks. Lots of short little clips and nothing much in the line of full shows.

Yes, they need to organize the content better. However, I downloaded several HD Olympics and PQ was just as good as the live broadcasts. However, the "Time Left" on the banner was useless on some of the events when played back as was the bar at the bottom because it did not display where we were in the playback nor how much time remained. Some playbacks allowed a "Resume" from where last stopped while others would start from the beginning. Those things should be fixed.

Finally, more full length free HD VOD and the price must come down quite a bit before I would even consider purchasing HD movie downloads.

All of the stuff that costs extra has a dollar sign on the far right of the title.....

The free stuff has no dollar sign......

It's still a good first step, heopfully they will expand it with more full length content. Comcast does this the best (I saw it over my bro-in-law's place). Emulate that and negate another advantage of the wireheads E*!

I don't think that was the problem. I'm on Wildblue, so I don't use the DishOnline. But I watched some highlight package on the "TV Entertainment" DVR section, and it was all jittery, like the field order was reversed. That stuff comes off of video feeds, not downloads. I think NBC just provided them with some bad files.

It's called the "smoke" part of "smoke & mirrors" marketing.............. and when they run a $5 VOD on 501 that you only have for 24 hours and can't record to your part of your HDD but at the same time have it available for $3.00 on regular PPV where you CAN save it.........well I guess that would be the "mirror" part.

Just rent it - you're not supposed to know any better.:(
