It was interesting. Yes Apple has tight control and integration across their devices. Is it that great a feature? They have their loyal fans, so it works for some of the people. They do not dominate the market, so a lot of people manage to get by with different OSs and integration.
I'm amazed that MS has no real ecosystem so Windows users need Google if they want some integrated abilities. Just as an example is contacts in windows. even with Win8/8.1 that uses your hotmail/live/outlook signin universally, those contacts are not available in other MS apps at all or in very limited ways. For instance, Skype desktop on Windows won't see them but will import from Facebook and will use Outlook's contact list if you have the Outlook mail client running, but the Skype 'modern UI' doesn't use them nor will it import. That holds true across the platform unless you use 3rd party groupings.
