I got a note from one of my Dish contacts tonight who let me know one big feature was missing from the 942 release notes, and that note is 8PSK TURBO is now ENABLED on the 942.

Very interesting. :)

Turbo Schmurbo...I've heard this term being tossed around at the Tech Chat, but it wasn't fully explained. As I understand, there are now over 10 million STBs that support 8PSK (hardware function)...correct? However, Turbo 8PSK is implemented with software...right? How is this done? Less error correction? If so, won't this lead to more rain fade problems similar to that of VOOM DBS? To me, more software implies needing more horsepower to process the Tubo 8PSK datastream, which could lead to slower and more error prone STBs. Do these 10 million STBs have enough horsepower? Really it's a mute issue since they plan to target the HD users first (811 and 942). Will Turbo 8PSK kill the 921?
