Yeah!! The Track events have begun! I love the swimming, but now that track has begun, it feels like we are really in the Olympics. :)

And I'll admit, I get blown away by how fast these folks are. Saw the Women's 10K run in 30min. Amazing. And the Women's 100m - impressive.

Yeah !!!

While I prefer the Winter Olympics, there are a few locals in the Olympics this year, one is in Track and Field, a High Jumper, I do not know if he is in others as well or not.

I chuckled at the guys who won the medals in the shot put. They looked more like bike gang members than Olympians, but man could they hurl that ball!

Also saw a long jump qualifier by a kid who is a WR for Texas. He was pretty impressive. And I guess he gets to miss out on two-a-day's for a bit. :)

They have been showing a lot of the running events tonight.

I am impressed by the South African amputee runner. I can only assume that the decision to allow him to run is based on some kinesiology that the artificial legs don't give him an advantage. I know it was controversial, But it was pretty cool to watch him come in second in his heat for the 400. He was impressive and an inspiration. Seemed like it was natural.

Some guys around here could smoke all of those runners. Just need two things; a belt and blue lights behind them.

It amazed me to watch the Shot put guys the other day...

How do you learn how to run around in a circle like that and manage to throw the ball the right direction?

And they looked like they belonged in Hells Angels. :D

The spinning is impressive, but I sure would not want to be behind them! :)

They are calling the double amputee the "Blade Runner" - love it.

The NYT has an interesting story on it: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/08/05/s...us-advances-to-400-meter-semifinals.html?_r=1

Points out that the other runners are not bothered by the blades - but they also acknowledge that he is not expected to be in the mix at the end (which might have made it a different issue). And that the blades force him to run upright in a less aerodynamic position, which negates possible advantages.

Waiting for the mens 400 relay... Florida Running back and fastest man in College football Jeff Demps will be showing his skills..

SEC SPEED!~!!

I wouldn't want to be the guy sitting next to them with the flags.

Also thought it was strange that after some threw they would then step out of bounds almost in purpose. And that throw would then be red flagged.

What is up with yellow Nike shoes? One heat of the 1500m had every runner in them. I am thinking Nike paid the runners?

Michael Phelps was wearing a pair in an interview before I came to work, must be...

I don't think those were the same. And you would never walk around in the shoes that people race in on a track - zero support; not designed for comfort, but for speed.

Watching Pistorious get ready to run now. The Blade Runner. :) Very cool. The special they ran on him was pretty impressive too.

Oh well, he did not do so well in the semi-final, but still pretty impressive. And when the other athlete asked him to trade name-tags, that spoke volumes. And he ran 400m in 46.54 seconds.
