My RCA Direct TV Receiver cratered. I think it is the power supply. I use it in a motorhome with a tracking satellite system. Any ideas on where I can find a used replacement receiver? The old one was a drd0435rh model with a low speed data port. I'm under the impression the newer receivers will not work with the older tracking satellite antennas????

Have you confirmed that they will not work with newer rec's. ?
I would find this to be disturbing, seeing it all sets up to see the sat signal, you should be able to use any rec.
D* would not tell you that you NEED to use X rec in order to use the RV system, what happens when the rec. is no longer available ?

btw, you mentioned the "Low Speed Data port", are you using that for something ?
I have never used the LSD port and it was on a lot the older units.

I would call D* and ask for the technical support dept, then tell them it's a RV situation and maybe you'll get to someone that can help you correctly in that area of the company.
fwiw, I use a HR20-700 for the RV, but it's not hooked up to the auto sat finder set up either, I use a tripod so I can move out from trees when thats an issue.

You might also find out who the maker of the sat locator is and give them a call.

If the old RCA DRDs worked, any of the current receivers will be compatible with your dome unit.

As shocked an appalled as you are, I think this may be a real issue. The older multi-satellite domes had to be told where to go to find a particular satellite as they had only a single feed horn and used stepper motors to achieve proper azimuth and elevation numbers. I think the OP is correct in assuming that those instructions came through the serial port. This seems the best way that new satellite locations could be easily added without having to flash the dome itself.

DIRECTV has inadvertently forsaken RV customers. There appears to be only one option for Ka band and it involves a standard Slimline (with a modified LNB arm) mounted on a Winegard TRAV'LER polar mount (MSRP $1795 + installation). In an exceedingly unfortunate naming situation, the "Slimline" dish from KVH can't see the Ka satellites.

Back in the day, you could nail a Phase III dish to a board, set the elevation and slant by-the-book and be good to go. The Slimline begs to be mounted on a tripod which must be carefully leveled and then the dish painstakingly peaked.

I believe the D10 was the last receiver made with the low speed data port that you need for the RV system. There is always Ebay eventually that model will come up you just have to keep searching there are a lot of them in use or stored in cellars.
