I'm going to be trying an FTA install this weekend. Fortec Lifetime Ultra, and an DirecPC dish. Someplace I heard that newer coax is rated for higher frequencies and that for some applications that older stuff might not work. The coax I intend to use is RG6 that came from a Digital Satellte Source Dish Network self install kit circa 1999. Is there a way to tell? Should this work?

Also, for a stationary setup, it looks like G10 has lots of channels. Are there other satellites people would recommend?

I'm in southern Arizona.

Thanks.

G10R @ 123ºw sounds like a GREAT place to start, for hundreds of foreign channels checkout IA-5 @ 97ºw

I like IA-6 @ 93w for news feeds (Its also my true south satellite)!

The RG6 cable will work but next time you buy any try to get solid copper rated to at least 2.2Ghz. (Thats what I use right now)

older cable is good up to 1800MHZ (I have a bunch of it from old DirecTV install kits) which will work fine for FTA applications

As PSB noted, the better cable (2200MHZ) is mainly used for Dish Network, since they used stacked frequencies (and they need to go above 1800MHZ)

But I hvae a bunch of normal RG6 in my FTA setup and it works just fine :)
