Official - I have a Hopper 3 Thread!

I'm in the club!

Ordered online (chat) yesterday evening. Tech showed up at 8:45 AM. (I'm a "New: customer)

He was a new tech, Let me know this was only his 3rd install with Dish, and his first H3.

He had a hard time finding a good line of sight at the house, as expected. He decided to install the dish on my storage barn about 50 feet away.
He also had my order changed, and went from two Joey receivers to two Wireless Joey receivers, since he didn't want to wrap a cable half way around the house.

In the end, Everything works.
When I turn on the H3, is there a way to just get it to live TV instead of "Home"? My only minor annoyance I notice.

My only complaints so far, the search feature is a little strange (unless I am missing something). Hit the search button, and start typing something. First of all, you have to use the on-screen keyboard, you can't hit 2 twice for B. Second, as you type, the hopper starts to show channel names that match what you are typing. I want to search for programs, not channels. You can actually hit 0 after you type in what you want to search for, and it does the program search. Would like it to start showing programs as I type, not channels.
[/QUOTE]

It is probably still populating the search databases. As you type it will search for shows, movies, channels, actors, sports teams and collections (like batman movies). Give it overnight to populate the databases of the satellite

Got my H3 installed today. I like the new interface, but my eyes required the "dark" setting to be changed to "light", and although I was hesitant, I think I'll like the new remote better too! The installer needed a bit more training, but we muddled through it. He insisted that I had to switch from Western arc to Eastern arc because the 4K programming only exists on the EA according to him. In my case, my locals are on both and EA has a slightly better line of sight, so I didn't mind. So instead of just a new LNB, I have a complete new dish and all new wiring into the house. I asked to keep my 40.0 remote because I backed up my timers and settings and he said he didn't know what I was talking about and it wouldn't work. I made a bet with him. I said lets pair the 40.0 first and if it works, he couldn't try to sell me his HDMI cables or Bluetooth headphones or whatever else he had on the truck. If it didn't work, I'd buy something. That got his attention. I showed him how to restore the settings and everything transferred seamlessly. Needless to say, no extra sales for him. Only complaints this far is the annoying home screen... But I'll get used to it. And when I launched the weather app, after closing it, I got a large black box on the center of the screen that wouldn't go away. After a reboot, it's all better. We'll see what the future brings.

Two days after install, and I still don't have OTA guide data for more than an hour. Is anyone else having this problem?

Called my retailer who was excited and waiting for H3. Said they were coming in Friday, but installs were on hold. She called her distributor who told her should be good to go by weekend. Sunday appt. She came with her husband as they both were excited for their 1st H3 install.

Changed lnb, replaced node with hub, and wait for it............................................

Stuck on check disk forever...................... Swap out hub, then wait........................ swap out lnb then wait.................................
Swap out receiver then wait....................................................................................... Call Dish - no ideas..........................

OH - lets change the 5' cable from hub to receiver - BINGO!

Took a while to get internet to sync up. Retailer was very knowledgeable about un-pairing & re-pairing remotes. They were super glad that I was a dish nerd, and thanked me profusely for our patience during install. We felt bad for them that it took 4 hours.

The new interface is SUPER responsive and fast. Figured out how to transfer the timers from primary hopper. Did not try to transfer timers from my old secondary hopper. Had taken photos of each page of timers on tv screen. Typed them into a spreadsheet. Searched for them on www.tvseriesfinale.com and deleted about half.

Search feature is fantastic. Took me forever to figure out that you CAN NOW SEARCH AND FIND SHOWS THAT ARE NOT CURRENTLY IN THE GUIDE. When a show does not show any current airing episodes to record go up and select the summary tab and select "record when available". This is tremendous as I was dreading having to search for missing timers every week for the next year.

I now have EVERY timer from both of my old hoppers in one timer list including shows that won't air until later this year. This is a great improvement.

I miss the protruding buttons from the old remote. Very little tactile feel to find buttons in a darkened room.

Just where is the "stop" button? Nothing in the included manuals on how to stop a recording and delete it. Currently have to go to either live tv or the dvr screen, start watching something else, then go to dvr and delete the show I just finished.

All in all - really nice piece of hardware from DISH. Kudos to them.

One more thing - my usb OTA adapters both stopped working at the same time a few months ago. Called DISH and they acted like I was from mars. No help whatsoever. Plugged them into the H3, and they still don't show up. Any ideas?

While you are watching a recorded show or something you are recording press the select button. You get several options. 1 will be the Stop option.
The new interface uses Select and Options a lot.

Any way to have new recordings default to "new episodes only"? I set up X Files and it defaulted to "all episodes" and I had 10 episodes recorded over night. Didn't see a way to modify so i had to delete the timer and redo it this time hitting the record button super quick to get the options and set it to "new only".

Any lightning in your area at the time your usb OTA adapters quit working? Are they hooked up to an outdoor antenna? If they both failed at the same time, that would be unusual.

"Use select button" - Thanx - knew it had to be something simple to get it to stop.

OTA adapters - didn't think about lightning, I do have a 25' antenna. I'll try buying one adapter & see if it works.

New recordings - when the pop up in the bottom right corner flashes showing that it is saving - hit the select button and you will get the screen where you can choose. this defaults to either new or both based on the episode you selected from the search results screen.

When you select to record series a believe it tells you to press record for more options.

Got my H3 and 4K Joey installed yesterday. Ordering on dish.com was a breeze via chat on Saturday.
The install: The actual install took quite a bit longer than anticipated. This was the first H3 install in my small town of 25,000. The install took around 4 hours as there was a learning curve with the new system.
The equipment: The H3 is a very nice looking unit with the connections very easy to swap between old H2 and H3. The 4K Joey is very slim. Looks about the size of a CD jewel case. Connections very easy.
The interface: The 4K joey is very similar to the older one. The remote is the exact same which is very good. The H3 has a new remote which for now will take some getting used to. I am only using the Joey now as my 4K is my main TV. The guide is very good with a lot of the same features. Apps are pretty good as well. Vevo is a new one. Netflix is unavailable until February 11th with youtube supposedly coming this year with 4K video.
Overall: Been with Dish for 15 years and am pleased overall with new system. There is still a lot to learn about the new system i am sure.

my install was stopped when the hopper wouldnt get past the check switch portion. turned out it was the node that was burned out

i actually like the new 52.0 remote. i didn't use half the buttons on the old one. the 2 32.0 remotes i had would not sync up. the 40.0 would. input on the side is the new swap button

25,000 is a small town? Mine is 4,000. Now that's small.

Had same situation here with the "Check switch issue" Tech had on wrong port. Took right off then. Glad the 40.0 remote is like the 32.0. Haven't used the 52.0 yet as 4K Joey is on my main TV.
