I was reading the owners manual, and it states you can hookup an off air antenna or cable to the unit. I tried hooking up my cable, but wasnt able to view any of the channels. Does anyone know if this is possible? Acording to the manual it should be. Am i doing something wrong? Any suggestions?

Unless it is an HD receiver it is just a pass thru. You have to turn the receiver off or hit tv/video with the remote in sat mode to view anything, and then it will have to be thru the tv's tuner. If it is an HD receiver then you can scan the local HD stations into the guide if you have an off air antenna but not cable.
