Odd resolution issue with Discovery Family HD.

Recently, I noticed a very odd resolution issue with Discovery Family HD, channel 179. About two weeks ago, the sharpness of the HD picture has become very jagged looking, especially around on screen text. It's also very noticeable during the daytime children's programming. I also noticed the Dish ad inserts don't have this jagged appearance and the other Discovery HD channels look very sharp and detailed. The issue can be seen from a normal viewing distance from the screen.

I checked with the upstairs HDTV (LG 32'' set), as well as a store display that uses Dish HD to showcase their HDTVs on sale. Discovery Family HD has the same jagged appearance at those places too.

Can any others confirm this resolution issue with Discovery Family HD?

BTW, my TV is a Sony KDL-32XBR9.

I am not seeing what you are talking about. Looks Clear as day to me.. I never watch this channel though, and just tuned to it to check it out, and it looks fine. Actually, surprisingly it is looking better then some of my other HD channels. I am impressed. Only thing off I notice is the "TV-G" sign seemed a little ragged, but I do not care enough about that.

Odd. I should mention that with the upstairs LG 32'' set, the jagged edges are slightly smoothed out by the TV's picture settings, but comparing them to another Discovery channel like Animal Planet HD, I can still see a bit of jagged-ness on Discovery Family that shouldn't be there.

The spots where the issue is most noticeable are the TV ratings icons, the on screen bug and text that sits above it, and the daytime animated programming which is mostly made in Flash and has artwork that should normally be very smooth. If possible, I can provide pictures of what I am seeing as I am certain it's not my TV or receiver.

Hmm, I'm trying to post my images, but the forum won't let me. I think the images from my digital camera are too large in size. I will resize them and then try posting again.

No pictures you can post are going to accurately replicate what you are seeing.

I understand, but I was able to get some results by placing my camera on a small tripod. A tripod really helps eliminate motion blur that can ruin the image.

The first image is from Discovery Family. The jagged-ness around the text is clearly visible from normal viewing distance and on the demo TVs I seen at the local department store. It also can be seen to a certain extent on the LG set upstairs, but that TV's image processing likely minimizes the jagged-ness.

Second image is from Animal Planet HD, and the logo and the program content is smooth and sharp like it should.

I also have a recording from Discovery Family made on November 3rd before I started seeing the picture issue and as with Animal Planet, the on screen text and detail are smooth and sharp. The issue appeared a few days afterward.

I record science programs from Discovery Family all the time and I have not noticed this. (The Science Channel has too much crap on it these days.)

If I am looking at that correctly, there is something definitely wrong. I can promise you, mine does not look like that, but that is bad. PM a dirt member, have a report submitted.

I will go ahead and PM one of the DIRT members, and will also include the images as well. I just got an HD upgrade at the beginning of the month, and I am thoroughly enjoying the HD channels that are available. It initially made watching the documentaries and science shows on Discovery Family far more enjoyable since I was stuck with an SD Dish DVR 512, and my upgrade receiver was a VIP 612.

Outside of Discovery Family and now Discovery Channel (which I noticed going up to Animal Planet HD), all the other HD channels are sharp and clear and far better than the muddy SD versions I was stuck with. I have had my Sony 32'' set for a year prior to the upgrade.

Thanks for the input and help. I appreciate it. :)
