It looks like NVidia is serious about the smartphone/tablet market
NVIDIA acquiring wireless chip manufacturer Icera, doubling-down on the post-PC era -- Engadget

First, Intel bought Infineon.
That prompted Apple to ditch Infineon as a baseband chip supplier and go with Qualcomm, US market darling of the techno bubble era...

NVidia, already having a quite successful Tegra 2 chip for the current gadgets (and plans for exponent growth going forward), also decided to get their hands on a baseband supplier.

That can mean only one thing: SOCs combining CPU/GPU/radios are coming.
And maybe we will live to see all that incorporated on the SIM card itself...
One can dream, right? :)

Diogen.

Sooner or later it will get to something along those lines, but I suspect the sim card will remain discrete so that the identity is, separate from the functionality.

Cheers,

LOL "post-PC era"

Which hasn't even happened (post means after) and likely wont for some time; if ever. I am not knocking their move as it's always smart to diversify..

Wasn't there a very recent Nielsen survey that said most tablet owners are actually using their PCs as much or more than they did before buying their tablet?
