NOW you can talk about the national championship

As bad as they looked last night, they could be lucky to get in the Independence Bowl. They have to go into South Carolina next week againt Spurrier, come home to play Georgia, Alabama, and Ole Miss among others, then finish at Arkansas. If their QBs don't come around and play more consistenly and they don't get healthy on defense, it could be a disappointing season to say the least.

I think with a bit better play at the QB position, LSU should go 3-1, beating SC, Old Miss, possibly Georgia, that ones up for grabs, and I don't see them beating Alabama, unless Alabama is a few week wonder, but I don't think so, Saban has them rolling.

You CANNOT lose to the chickens!!!! LSU's scout team ought to be able to beat them. This season's going so well right now. The last thing I need is to hear is that the Ol Ball Sack is some coaching genius again.

The Ol Ball Sack (good one) has always given LSU a hard time. Playing in his backyard with a banged up defense and a less than talented secondary even on a good day, worries me. I know Smelley's not the greatest QB around, but if the Tigers can't get any more pressure on him than they did Tebow, he'll look like a Heisman candidate. ;)

I agree. But if you're wrong about any of that, I hope it's the Alabama part. It'll make a lot of Tiger fans sick if Saban comes into Baton Rouge in only his second year and kicks LSU arses.

Oh, I'm sure he'll be reminded of that when the time comes ....

Saban walked away from LSU for Miami Dolphins, right ?
Wern't you Tigers fans happy with the team he had in Baton Rouge when he left ?

Yeah we were. That was the team during the Katrina year. The only loss during the regular season was a heartbreaker to Tennessee after leading 21-0 at half, then got killed by Georgia in the SECCG. Les's first year. I think Saban could've possibly won it all again with that team, but we'll never know. I know it pissed a lot of people off when he bolted for Miami after saying he wasn't ( a habit of his it seems ;)).

Yes, thats the biggest problem with Saban, he can't stay in one place very long.
He could have been at any of his previous stops still, in college that is, but he's quick to jump to something bigger and or more money.

How long is his contract at Alabama, I hope it's not for more than 3-4 years because he won't be there ....

Ya know, IF he decided to STAY at Alabama he could be right up there with the Bear in football lore, but , he won't stay.

I didn't expect him to stay at Toledo, Pinkel could have stayed longer though, Nick could have stayed and made MSU a powerhouse and still been there, much like Tom Izzo.

Can you recall any teams in college football weathering a humiliating loss to win the national title?

(LSU's losses to Arkansas and Kentucky were not humilating; those were quality teams with a superstar player)
That was one of my arguments last year as to why USC was not in the NC. They lost to Stanford who they were favored to beat by 41. A humiliating loss sticks in the minds of voters (who still control 2/3 of the BCS formula).

If that holds true, USC better be on the outside looking in! That loss to Oregon State better hold up- no excuses for the AP voters.

I once said on this site that AP voters lust after USC the way Sandra lusts after Henrik Lundqvist.

Let's see if that holds up.

Unfortunately the AP poll isn't part of the BCS formula. The Coaches poll, which is highly suspect, is.

How that LSU team lost to a Ron Zook-coached team (IN DEATH VALLEY!) is beyond me!

Yeah, they were about as flat as you can get that day.

I think Ron got a bad break at Florida. Everyone always says that Les won with Saban's recruits. Well, Meyer won with Zooks if you ask me.

Even John Cooper was a good recruiter, he just couldn't coach in BIG games.

It was usually just Michigan.

Other Big-10 teams didn't scare him; IIRC, he never lost to Northwestern; Tressel LOST to NW in 2004.

And bowl games. Cooper would often breeze through the season and then lose to both UM and then in the following bowl game.
